Im looking at putting a 2" coil spacer leveling kit on my 17 SR. But im on the fence because ive read that they can cause your front end to wear out real quick (and of course others saying they've never had a problem with them).

Anyone on TW have any truth to this debate?

    Yup.

Friends don't let friends run spacer lifts.

I personally put 100,000 miles on a Gen 2 Tacoma and 100,000 miles on an 07 Tundra both with spacer lifts and never had a single problem and could not tell any difference in ride quality. I have a set sitting in my garage right now for my 16 Tacoma once it's time for new tires.

Im guessing you didn't do much serious off roading? Im making more of a street queen that will be used for camping, not much more.

That's exactly it, they were both used for work and the only off roading I do is hopping curbs and medians to avoid traffic.

If you're not doing any off roading, then a small spacer on the front is just fine. You can get a 1/2" top plate spacer with extended studs and it'll raise your front 1".

When I say no offroading, I mean the occasional beach, dirt trails (at a crawl) and maybe the rare mud hole.

The big potential threat to using a top plate spacer is bottoming out. This is easily solved by spacing your bump stop down, and you won't have any issues.

On the Tacoma is was 2in front and 1in rear, and the Tundra was about 2.5in in the front just to level the truck.

I had 2" spacers on the front of my '98 taco 4x4 work truck. Put over 400,000 miles on it w/o a problem. Never did any serious off road stuff. Made the truck sit level, and looked great. Cheap too.

Don't run a cheap shit spacer lift. Check the 6112/5160 lift write up linked in my Sig below.... save your money and do it right the first time. The truck will perform BETTER than stock ON and OFF road. ~$1500

any lift is going to cause accelerated wear on drive train components.....that being said....2" is pretty mild, and really shouldnt cause much issues.

unless you are doing serious offroading, there is no problem running spacers, just be sure space your bump stops, and youll be fine.....and itll perform just as well as a "proper lift" for about 99% of the driving most people do.
