So the general response is that coil spacers are shit. Any suggestions on how to get a level truck without spending an arm and a leg?

Put about 180lbs in the bed. Seriously, when I got my cap it took the rake right out. Might be 1/4" higher in the back, tops.

Not necessarily. Coil spacers are shit if you plan on doing any real off roading. If you just plan on doing the occasional fire road, then they're more than fine. I'm telling you, do the 1/2" spacers from headstrong off road to lift you 1" in the front.

What's your absolute limit as far as budget?

Spacers; (top plate spacers) Not the best way to raise a truck, but then again, not quite as horrible as some would indicate. You end up with same spring rate, same shock valving, same ride as BEFORE. Problem is, the shock will now run out of travel before the suspension travel runs out. Puts you in a position where the shock is now the "bump stop". Can result in bending/breaking the shock. That problem will rear it's ugly head if/when you do any hard off roading.

You CAN raise the front end with an adjustable shock (ie Bilstein 5100) set at one of the possible settings that increase coil spring preload. Problem there is, the shock has a static setting on rebound dampening. With increased preload, the shock will "jackhammer" on harsh roads and/or off road conditions.

It's best to get a good quality shock, raise the truck with a LONGER coil (rather than preloading a "shorter" coil) Contact Marie @ Headstrong Offroad. Ask specifically about Bilstein 5100's in conjunction with OME coils. (Get that pre-assembled) Also include a name brand AAL for the rear if you want a low cost method of lifting all 4 corners.

Or....Keep spending. The sky is the limit.

My personal suggestion...Stay with a relatively mild lift (around 2" or so) Beyond that point is where suspension and drive line geometry start playing tricks on you. I'm sitting about 2-1/2" over stock in the front and 2" in the rear. Perfect alignment numbers, truck handles great, not one single odd vibration, and the truck performs exactly as it should.

Again....Talk with Marie. She will not steer you in the wrong direction just to make a sale. Just know how much $$$$ you have to work with before getting on the phone.

this is also easily remedied by putting in taller bumpstops or a bump stop spacer.

I guess its not so much a cash limit, its more of a returns on investment to me. I spent a grand on a 6inch lift (with install) on my chevy, and not only did I get a great lift, I also got a significant difference in height and looks. 1500 for a lift isn't unreasonable, but when it only adds 2inches, it just doesn't seem worth it.

Also there is the fact that if I was able to do a bigger lift, I don't have the cash for new wheels and tires.

Its really a shame... I want to do just a few mods, but what little is out for this truck is just so damn expensive!

Ex: went to 2 "truck accessory" shop, and it would be close to $600 just for a bumper mounted light bar, installed and wired IF I supplied the lights.

Guess im just in shock coming to a new truck vs one that had been out for a decade by the time I got it.

this is from personal experience I had a toytec spacer kit when I first bought my truck because well its cheap and semi effective way to lift your truck. well one day bombing trails with the buddies i hit a pretty big dip in the trail and hear a bang/crack sound. my front end is sitting on the ground and my driver strut was in 2 pieces. turns out if you run a spacer kit your strut will bottom out before it hits the bump stop and boom snap the rod. learned that the hard way. so yeah if you plan on doing ANY offroading stay away from spacer kits.

My question is, why are you focused on the amount of lift in inches vs money spent? It's not mutually exclusive, whatsoever.

Never ceases to amaze me that people go out and spend 30 to 40 grand on a new truck and then want to put hockey pucks into one of the more critical components of the vehicle. Whereas you could spend a small fraction % of what you did on the truck to get something that provides FUNCTIONAL improvement and is safer as well. I guess a lot of folks just shoot their wad buying the new truck and don't leave any room in the budget for decent improvements and upgrades or there is no patience to save for them.

Why spend a shit ton of money on a lift that you're not going to use for off-roading? So you can brag about it on a forum? I don't understand that reasoning.
