Thanks for the info and entertaining debates, I will keep my Gen-1 (Several people have asked me to sell it to them no matter what issues it has...) The new Tacos seem to have issues out of the box etc, my issues are cheaply fixed, and I'm starting to enjoy fixing them myself. Keep up the good work here on TacoWorld, my go to source forever.

Great choice, I crossed that line at 480,000 miles with a blown headgasket, so you have many miles to go, I decided to toss 5k into her all said and done to make her perfect body and mechanically perfect
( new motor) and added some upgrades including LG1 corbeau seats and
supercharged with 2.1 pulley still puts out more power than a new 2017 Tacoma.
Easy choice for me and no electricity nightmares to deal with.
No payments, our trucks don't really go down in value anymore, while a new
Tacoma falls like a rock with each mile on top of a 600.00 payment and insurance per month

Who let the 3rd gen guys into the 1st gen forum? I see a lot of broken convos here. 1st gen section actually has tech talk in it.

Keep the first gen for as long as possible and retire a year or two early.

It's funny to me that a lot of people who see cars as "appliances" to be used and thrown away, call people who are passionate about cars "weird", and then judge us for keeping our older vehicles maintained because well, it gets us from point A to point B. Who needs gimmicky features? How are you liking that $500/mo payment? Funny how those tables get turned as we grow older. What was once "weird" and a "waste of money (why modify or update an older vehicle? Why maintain it or care for it??)" ends up being, from a financial standpoint, pretty smart.

Yup it is, some of these people that are buying the 2017-18 Tacoma's for 45,000 can't afford the payments 800.00 a month and are taking a bath on depreciation and trying to find a way out of them, and I thought I
had problems with a leaking steering rack, :)))

I saw that. Sometimes I'll see a thread in the 3rd gen forum that I can't resist lurking in, or I'll just go to that section purely for entertainment :D:pccoffee:

I've been looking over the 3rd Gens recently as well, building different trucks online and just generally lusting for NEW. Then I look at the '97 I rescued and think about all the weekends I can spend with my 12yo son out there helping me wrench and off his PS4. Makes the new truck seem to cost even more.
