Ok everyone, here is the situation:

My elocker crapped out. Broke, actually. So I need a solution where I get a locked rear end again. Open diff aren't going to cut it. Also, I'm now in 33" duratracs and need a regear for those long trips into the Rockies and such. The hill climbs really suck the life out of the 5vzfe. The stock 4.10s aren't cutting it.

So all in all, I need a regear and a locker........hmmmm:pccoffee:

    The plan:

So, I'm planning on picking up a used 8.4" (don't shoot me for not saying 8" w/o locker) with 4.56 gears from a 4cyl. Then buying two ARBs and a front R&P from Nitro Gears. This will get me locked front/rear and regeared for roughly $3500. Installation will all be done by yours truly.

Any suggestions? :notsure: Mainly I just want to talk and think this through, and see if there are any better options for trying to achieve what I want. Let me k ow what you offroad gurus think.

I spent $2200 on a regear with a rear ARB from ECGS. Roughly $3200 would have you professionally rebuilt and warrantied differentials from them with no used parts at all.

Where are you getting an 8.4 with 4.56s? My 8.4 (from a 4cyl auto came with 4.30s). I know 4.56s existed on 4runners, and potentially on tacomas, but they are extremely rare.

I do know that all double cab 4 cylinder autos came with 4.56 gears.

As I'm in Canada, i have found a Toyota specific wrecker near Vancouver, B.C. Has pretty much any axle, depending on what route I wanna go, for roughly $600usd
