    Wanting Taco
Okay, so I've wanted a taco for years. My goal was to roll around with one when I turned 40 last week.

Well, my trade in is worthless and has delayed me a bit. So I'm now hesitant, or looking hard at deals. 2010 Equinox 130K miles...worth maybe 4K. Arg.

My Goal: Blue '17 Limited. I want the toys. Never really had them.

This is the truck for years to come. Good for the house, kid, dog.

    Questions:
Only need 4x2. I've had 4x4 in past, including keep. Hardly used & will be 80-90% road/high way. Other times for camping, kayak.

    Here in E TN, I'm basically labeled a moron if I didn't get 4x4
Howeve, in case, does this really kill resale like sales dudes say? Live in decent size city.

I'm a fan of leather, not so much the brown. It's okay. How hard is it to install leather seats?

Last, I have found brand new limited for $35k or '17 TDR sport loaded(w/JBL) for $32,600 and 18K miles. Both out the door.
    Both 4x2 blue.

Don't have all the cash in the world, but could justify both, but obviously don't mind paying less a month.
Does 18k miles matter? Does $2500 more worth it? Is there that big a difference between sport and limited? I good either way on the scoop.

OR get SR5 and add extras? I want good sound, and I like the goodies of heated seats and maybe sunroof. Leather not a must.

Thanks. Hopefully my dream will come true. Just can't pay $40k+ for same in 4x4 and never use.

No one can tell you which trim level to buy, that's all about your needs/wants and how deep your pockets are.

18k is not a lot of mileage at all just ask to see maintenance logs etc... I bought mine with 13k on ODO with 1 previous owner.

Personally I could care less about the seats that come with the truck and couldn't justify spending extra just for leather. They are going to get seat covers anyway as it's meant to be a work horse/adventure mobile for me.

If you're worried about getting full warranty on the 3rd Gen, buy new so you can recoup the full warranty. Buying used (certified or whatever they call it) you're only getting what's left of the warranty.

There are a million other variables out there too.

Hope I could help & welcome to TW

    ...^^^...
I have had 10 or 12 Toyota trucks and several were 4x4's and never used it.

If you don't off road or need it, pass on the 4x4.

FWIW, my 4x2's gave me less trouble too.

You can't go wrong with either ... good luck with your decision.

If you are going to keep the truck for years to come then what does it matter what the resale is? None the less, even if your area is anti 4x2, you will find a buyer even outside of TN (just come east one state)

I like the sport, it's what I had before I went all offroad crazy on it. In the 4x2 setup you will have a faster truck than the 4x4's, and it is more consistent with the sporty nature. There isn't a huge difference, but the Sport does have some stiffer valving, and in 4x2 you will notice it on the freeway exits :).

If you should ever decide to lift your Sport, you can go higher with less grief on the 4x2, and even add a locker to the rear later, so don't think the story is over with 4x2. Pre-Runners are popular on the sand.
Also, there is a 2WD Enthusiast thread here on this site that's pretty active.

Price sounds fair, expensive, but that's better than buying one with 3 times as many miles for pretty much the same price.

For leather, consider the Clazzio seat covers. There is an extensive thread about them and they look really good, with out having to completely disrobe your interior. Do it as soon as you can before your OEM covers get ketchup on them.

On a long term keeper, all the 'toys' will be worth about a dime, or less, on the dollar at resale time.

Certain toys need to come from the OE to be 'right' in the vehicle, IMHO. Certain toys (like your seating) can be well served aftermarket. Half the initial cost, still worthless in the end.

If you will figure out how to calculate TCO, and apply realistic expectations for yourself to that, it will help you evaluate your choices.

Good luck in your decision making.
