I'm probably leaving when we break camp Sunday morning. Nothing against you guys, I've just already done all the short hikes at the gorge ad nauseum.

Also I thought presta had 285s as well, cause I thought he had STT Pro's, which they don't make in 255s.

All you CB guys. I have a cheap Uniden CB but was going to order me a new antenna. Have heard good things about Firestik's antenna's. What all do I need extra to hook this thing up? I have an antenna but it's just the cheap magnetic one from Walmart. Anybody have any extra equipment they're not using?

3ft or 4Ft or does it really matter?

You want to end up with (@ least) 2/3rds of the antenna above the roof of the truck. 4' willextend range some on open road.. Look at Amazon listing for firestik. It will show other items you will need. (Inc 4" spring)

You can research antennas for CBs just as long as you can research what lift/tire combo is best. Speaking from experience, I've had perfect luck with the Wilson Little Wil. Its magnetic so it doesn't have to be a permanent fixture. I've run mine in the center of my roof which is optimal (max tested range with it was about 8 miles ATBF in that position), and I currently run it on the right side of my hood (max tested range with it there was 2 miles, although through dense foliage- incidentally at RRG to a buddy on his handheld). The Little Wil is super popular, so I imagine you can pick it up at any truckstop that sells CB stuff. There's also a link to the antenna on Amazon in the 'products discussed in this thread' thing- $35 is a solid price. I didn't have to cut mine any to tune it- at the recommendation of the guy running the CB shop I bought it at, just push it down as low in the mount as it will go. I could probably gain something by tuning it, but its certainly well within the range that I'm not going to burn up my CB while Tx. Most firestik reviews I've read have mentioned they typically require some tuning and that means you have to find an SWR meter as well, or pay someone to do it. Once you get it tuned up, I'm sure they rock, but the Little Wil has more than met my needs and I don't expect to need to upgrade that for any group outings Im gonna be on.

Just my unsolicited 2 cents- get the Little Wil unless you plan on spending the $12 difference on my bacon. Then do as you will.

PS I'm stuck bringing my dog on this trip because the wife is out of town and nobody can watch her. Any of you bringing small kids tell them not to try to pet her, she gets snappy sometimes when people she just met bend down over her and try to do that. Once she gets calmed down she'll be more social.
