    Hey,

I'm planning to bring this up with the dealer I go to for service since its free for 25k miles.

But I've been noticing that the pump always shuts off at 17~18 gal. We all know that the capacity is ~21gal.

I tried it in most gas stations except arco (sorry).

Pump always shuts off so I just manually add the last 2~3 gal fighting the autopump stop (via feathering the trigger)

Just wondering if anyone had some similar experience.

Your 'estimated miles left' until your empty shows 0 when you have roughly 2 gallons left. So if you hit 0 you should realistically only be able to put in 18-19 gallons. Based on that this sounds normal. How many miles per tank are you getting?

do not add gas past when it automatically shuts off you can do damage to some kind of canister gizmo in the engine compartment. result will not start and tow to dealer.

yep. all of the above is accurate.

your "miles to 0" is really "miles to 3 gal reserve". if you really want to fill all 21 gallons, you're gonna have to drive 50~ miles past the 0 point.

Wow! I didn't know that. Yeah past few fillups I let it go down until the est miles left was "3".
It's showing 380ish per full tank. But of course counting miles on the odometer its way less LOL!

yeah i just read about that somewhere. Ok then. I'll just let it stop at 17 then.

Just FYI. You shouldn't let your fuel go below a quarter tank as the fuel is what cools the pump. You could potentially cause premature wear to fuel pump if there isnt enough fuel to properly cool it.

Can confirm my tank will also only take 18 gallons during most fill ups.

Well that explains it. Reminds me of that one Seinfeld episode where Kramer takes a car for a test drive and pushes the fuel gauge to the limit.

I don't choke my tank full because I don't want to find out what those charcoal canisters cost to have one replaced. I carry change in my truck and when the pump shuts off that is all I put in.

I currently have 1/8 tank left in my truck parked on a hill. I always fill till the pump stops, wait 30 seconds and then fill till it shuts off again.

That is a huge tank (at least it sounds huge coming from a tacoma / crv / civic household!)

And, I hope the dealer paid for the replacement canister... and did some training for lot attendants.
