I replaced my factory speakers with some Kickers DS Series from Crutchfield. They're buy one get one half off through the end of June. Speaker swap only, no amp. They sound much cleaner but the volume is the same and the Kickers are 4 ohm. I would absolutely recommend replacing the factory door speakers if you are thinking about a sub. It was easy. Took me about 2 hours total (an hour for the first door and 20 minutes for each after...you know how it goes), I didn't break anything or create any new rattles, and Crutchfield included everything I needed for the install. I am still considering an underseat sub to fill in the low end but don't have any plans to install an amp for the doors..yet. The mids and highs are loud enough for me, but if you are hoping for more volume, you'll need an amp.

Replacing the stock speakers were the first improvement mod I made to my truck when I first got it. I am too old to blast music anymore so my replacement speakers do the job for me. I went with the Rockford Fosgate combo pak from Amazon with the adapters and plug and play wire harness. Took less that an hour from start to finish. Very clean highs and good enough bass for me.
