Oh, and you can bring your pup. One of dogs is a complete asshole but the other is super sweet and nice.

My pup does not like other pups so much... We need to work on things... She is a pretty fucking great road trip companion, though.

    You come, too?

You're silly. Just make your camp far from the banks. Where we were the water would have to rise ~15 feet to get to us.

We were thinking about it but it would be a pain in the ass with the dogs. We have a very nice ground tent plus sleeping pads I'm very happy with. Plus, when we want to get the kayaks on we'd have to remove it. It's just not reasonable.

    Night, Murph!

So my argument against an RTT has always been that it wouldn't work with my dog... But now that I've seen the AT Habitats at Rally and the FlipPac Wildernest... that's what I want in my life. RTT + Dog accessibility = AMAZEBALLS.

One of the guys jays friends with and goes camping with just loads his dog up no problem.

And that's fine, if it suits your life style. A rtt doesn't suit our life style. We would have to lift two 60+ lb dogs into it, I refuse to use piss bottles so if I have to pee in the middle of the night I would have to crawl down. Most likely the dogs will cry the entire time I'm gone waking jay up in the process.

If we plan on going somewhere we want to kayak we'd have to take the rtt down just so we can bring the kayaks.

So we'll have a ~$2k tent sitting at home while we camp in our ~$400 marmot. Makes no sense.

There's no way I'd be able to haul my 60lb dog into an RTT up a ladder. But the FlipPac and the Habitat are both RTTs built right into the top of a truck topper, so you climb in through the back and then there's nice storage space and inside, plus a platform to step onto that allows you to get to the tent portion. The tents were much larger than most of the RTTs.

They had the Habitat at Rally and we were all mesmerized....

I'm not in love with the look of the topper portion, but the benefits outweigh that 1000x over.
