I just got a Sprint Booster V3, and I was wondering if any 3rd gen owners have installed one. I am curious if anyone has set off the CEL. The instructions say to turn off ignition and leave the door open for 10 minutes while the CAN bus system goes through the check list of it's status. I am curious if the key fob needs to be out of range or in range for this to work correctly. Thanks!

I am interested to know if this gadget actually works as advertised, what is your experience so far?

Is this the same device that fried ECUs because throttle input voltage was too high?

I believe that was a Pedal Commander.

So...I installed the Sprint Booster Saturday morning, and drove around town all day while shopping and running errands. I uninstalled the device and sent it back for a refund today. It made the throttle more responsive, but it also made the truck immediately downshift two gears while normally driving in 3rd/4th/etc. While taking off in 1st, it just dumps a lot of throttle with very little input. The Youtube videos are very deceiving. They show bench displays where they push the pedal and the throttle valve responds closer and closer to a 1:1 ratio depending on the setting. This is not what is happening in regard to the Tacoma application. It still has the delay, it simply seems to be opening the throttle more with less pedal input. The damn lag/delay is still completely present. As well, when driving at a normal city speed (35/45), if you give it a bit more throttle suddenly, the truck revs very high very quickly and downshifts two gears. It is not for me. I will sit back and wait for @OVTune to send me my development kit I just ordered for the ecu.

This is exactly how the device is supposed to work, for all vehicles. It does not get rid of the lag. It is not meant to, and it can't. It just pushes the pedal further for you.

I understand you point. That being said, this video shows something entirely different taking place. I feel it is a bit deceiving. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XVCYDNcwwY

Of course it does. It's an advertisement. They are trying to sell you a product.

The box they are using is built by the company to show just what they want you to see. There is no real car ecu in there. It is not showing the real effects on a car.

I ordered it before I made the deal with Mat. Subsequently, he had already informed me that I would have to remove it before any tuning took place.

I understand this. Some performance companies are honest in their representations and some are not. The tuner in my 5.9 makes the engine/throttle more responsive and it is simply a male/female plug that plugs inline between the harness and the injection pump.

I will post the whole process. I have had several conversations with @OVTune via email and I look forward to the process. I live at 9830 feet and my truck not only has a great deal of lag, but it is down on power due to the lean mixture/injection cycling from the altitude. I have to keep the revs way up to climb up and down the hills and mountains. For example, going from town to my house, the elevation change is 1250 feet in 4 miles of switchbacks. 3rd gear at 5000 rpm to go 45-50.

That 5.9 also has a turbo (you're talking about Cummins right?) which is something easy to tune to make power, just turn up the boost. This is an NA engine. You won't be getting a whole lot of result.

What setting did you have it in? I've had these units in my 2500 and my FJ Cruiser and they worked amazing. No trans problems whatsoever. I just ordered one for my Tacoma , I'm hoping I don;t run into this issue.

i have the Pedal Commander and have loved that thing since i got it in January and it made my truck really fun to drive. i removed it when i installed the OV tune a couple weeks ago so i don't need it any longer, but it was really great. i can answer specific questions if anyone has any but I'm not arguing with anyone about it.

I am very disappointed in the ignorance displayed by a few posts here. I had so much respect for those that I normally read, but this is a shame.
The OVT tune (2.0) did NOTHING for the disgraceful OEM "throttle hang" and "mindless shifting" of the A/T Tacoma, at least - not in my truck.

I have been searching for after market solutions ever since Mat announced to the world that the OVT Gen 3 tunes were now OVER.

So - perhaps like others - I will be trying to add a device such as the "Sprint Booster" to my OVT "tuned" 3.5L engine tune - which I DO believe shows improved engine performance, (so far as AFR, HP, torque).
But IMHO, without SOMETHING else being done, (besides the OTS tune) my truck STILL performs like $hit OVERALL - OVT, (and even a "ShiftSense Pro" installed).
Even after some improved controlling of the trans shifting "points" - that legacy throttle hang, delay, or whatever you want to call it - is detrimental to enjoying driving the vehicle - and damned frustrating to put up with.

So I don't blame ANY 3rd gen owner for trying to alleviate their aggravation by testing another after-market add-on.
Poking fun and being disrespectful on the forum helps NO ONE - and seems so childish.
