I was unable to make it all the way to poker flat or gold lake. Sorry, no updates. Hope someone might have some details.

Holy smokes - i'm surprised we didn't run into each other! I was also not able to make it. I got up and over past the saddleback fire lookout but ran into big drifts maybe 1/2 mile further on - maybe not insurmountable but I was not going to try alone... I didn't think to head west at the intersection, get on 25, and approach from devil's postpile... did you? Either way i'm guessing the last pitch down to Poker Flat was still under a bit of snow. Maybe another month?

Deer lake was also under a lot of snow. As was 93 to the buttes.

But super fun to finally get out this season. I did bump up the little road to Upper Sardine Lake.

I was exploring Bowman lake area last year, on a day-trip, and considered going back that way, rather than take Bowman road, but since I was by myself, and didn't know what to expect, I didn't.

It looks to me like the shortest 'northern' route would be taking the road north from Washington (a town near highway 20), and hook up to 'Meadow Lake rd', which goes west to Bowman, on the way to Meadow lake.

Wife pulled a wife card, moved my trip to Sunday. So I'll go Sunday overnight to Monday, if anybody can't go overnight to a Monday with a traditional job is still welcome to make it a day trip. I found 2 different ways in that look potentially pretty mild and I have it on good authority there are still snow drifts above 6k feet so the more the merrier, aka the more of us there is too pull me out if I start taking too many chances. If I reach the lakes without much problem I'll just spend the day trying to check out old mines and whatnot. That area is littered with 4x4 roads and peaks from what I can see. Just don't know how many roads to 7.5k peaks will be passable. But one can hope.

Posted a little write up of our weekend drive.

Anybody know if you can drive north from Snake Lake on 11E67 past Hawley Lake to 11M01 and then 23N08 to connect with 507? Imagining that would be a killer route from Downieville. My map shows it connects, and it is the same trail designation as the Snake Lake/Litter Deer Lake loop, but the North Yuba MVUM shows some private property smack in the middle of it. 11E67.

These are the first bears I've seen in California since we moved here in April 2016. I was pretty excited.

IMG_3056.jpg IMG_3047.jpg image.jpg Got to bowman, the FS closed Bowman lake road at the bridge, but an alternate route is just a little farther down hwy 20 thru the town of Washington, am more than happy to pass it along to anyone who needs it. Just shoot me a message and I'll send you the trail track. Camped and swam at Weaver lake just above Bowman, have the track for that too if anybody needs it.

Be very wary of cubs as there is always a big and protective Moma bear close by. This is the most dangerous situation you can be in with bear.

Did a trail from 5 corners outside of Yosemite this weekend up to the old fire lookout at Trumbull Peak. Great views of all of the Yosemite valley and an interesting trail. Not really difficult terrain wise minus driving on a cliff edge and LOTS of trail clearing / running the saw to get there. It was about a 45 mile round trip from asphalt that was entertaining while the wife was backpacking w her friends. Plenty of boondock camping to be had and little trails to explore. We had intended on running some additional trails that would lead to Briceburg but there were a ton of closures. I can PM a GPX file to whomever is interested, I have also posted it on the Overland Bound forums.
