Be careful though, if you get a clearance from DHS it will only work for DHS. It is not cross compatible with DoD or the other alphabet agencies.

But is it backwards compatible i.e. I have a clearance from the Dod that's good across the Intelligence Community. I would think that's plenty good for DHS

That is certainly possible. I know I have to go through the whole song and dance again if i moved to DoD or DoJ. I went through a damn polygraph when I applied to the FBI, but DHS still had me go through their 10 year check.

Find a job that deploys you sling boxes or something, at min they require a secret and will get it for you. Like I tell my cousin....you trade 1 year for the rest of your life. Once you get a secret, you have your foot in the door.

    Clearedjobs.net

    militaryhire.com

    Mantech, CSRA, KBR

are big contractors that tend to hire people w/o clearance and get them for you. It isn't super high pay being deployed but if you are just starting out, your goal is get a clearance. Remember if you are deployed for 12 months you qualify for tax free credit of up to a certain amount under the bonafide foreign presence tax clause.

Just offering up an option. Know plenty of guys that were in the same boat and had to make tough choices to leave families just to get a clearance and make a change.

Depends really on how bad you want to make the move into the sector.

Reason why its easier to get a clearance to deploy versus getting a clearance for a stateside job is because most companies don't want to invest in clearances for stateside jobs due to the ROI being very little compared to deployed individuals and being able to offset the cost.

Side note - It is full time employment 12 hrs a day 7 days a week, benefits, and you get to see the world.

I went on a cruise for 7 days. At day 5 I wanted to come back and mow my lawn. Im not a huge fan of traveling.

My brother lives in Paris, and I dont really want to go see him. Even though I could stay for free, for however long I wanted.

It was fun. A bunch or tight trails where I had to dodge and break branches as I went. Cant wait for Saturday at Bald Mountain. Brought back a shopping bag full of trash that idiots left in certain spots

Thats kinda what I did. I got a job traveling and installing networks and servers and computers, got my secret, then found a job doing what i wanted. I worked the first place almost 2 years, and travel was up to 70%, but for me was more like 50 or less. Travel was for about 3 weeks at a time though.

Yeah, unfortunately i was unable to travel outside the US to work. I just traveled around the states installing LPRs and RFID antennas for a few years. Kinda miss the road actually.
