My 07 prerunner v-6 has a cold idle speed that is 1300 -1500 rpm even in summer. Thats ok, but it doesnt slow down much at all after a warmup period. The owners manual states that its not necessary ti warm engine more than 30 seconds. It says to just drive off. Results in a big lurch when u put in gear. Cant believe they recommend that. Any thoughts on subject?

I have a '07 also , I let it run for about 3-5 minutes before I take off . I don't get in , fire it up and go lol . My fast idle comes down after letting it run for a bit (I haven't timed it tbh)

perfectly OK to get in and drive it, just dont mash on the throttle, be light on it for the first couple miles or so.... its actually MUCH better to warm up a motor this way as the light load will warm the motor up quicker than just sitting there idiling, washing the cylinder walls with excess fuel and moisture from being cold.

Yea i get the part about the warm up, but my concern is dropping it in gear is very rough on drive train, esp u joints. Seems like toyota should have made the computer handle that better. I have an 03 dodge that did that and trans shop did a re-learn with software available and that truck is real smooth now

Anyone know what the factory fast idle rpm is for a warm climate?

Mine idles higher than what I'm used to as well, cleaning the throttle body helped a little bit but it's still hard to get used to. I have a 300' driveway and can go the whole way without touching the pedal.

What's weird is after its fully warmed up it tends to idle really low.

Yep, exactly. To me its a known fault in the computer by toyota. Been around lots of cars for too long to talk about, but its like dropping trans into gear with ur foot on the throttle. Cant be good for any part of the drivetrain, esp the 4 sets of u joints on the2wdmodels. Really strange that owners manual tells you to do it!! Oh well, us consumers dont know crap anyway lol

My 06 idles higher than I think it should too. Guess I need to look at just how high. Any new information that you might have come across?
    Thanks!!

Yep, maybe im being picky but only because of the potential damage to drivetrain components. All these vehichles now are computer controlled so our hands are tied on most things. But for the owners manual to suggest that you drop it into gear at a 1500 rpm idle is crazy. But hey just bronging it up becsuse we can ,right. Thats what forums are all about, plus a good learning tool. So props to everyone on this forum for their input, John

John, is your truck an auto or a manual? I only ask because if it’s and auto it won’t hurt anything by puting it in drive since it has a toque converter it will not lock up when you are just stting, the same hapens when you are sitting at a stop light.
