    Too sad. Maui is changing.

Sorry for the bad outcome of your truck man. What is up with Maui? Thats the second one I have seen in the past weeks stolen here on TW. I love Maui, but the crime getting worse.

Problems are occuring in a handful of very specific areas: tourist centers & surf hangouts such as Kihei, Lahaina, Paia, Honolua; a few spots up North and on the Hana Highway near Nahiku where there is a lot of meth use. These are areas where bad transplants prey on tourists and other transplants. Most local communities are very safe & quiet. People in remote areas know each other and mostly don't need locks on their doors and can leave keys in vehicles. Where I live in Kaupo, there is a community watch, and anyone acting predatory creates a buzz very quickly before it gets to bad action. Illegal night hunting by outsiders is the biggest issue.
