I just installed the rostra cruise control on my 2009 base model 5 lug tacoma automatic. The cruise control works fine but the light on the dash that says "cruise" is not illuminated. I have checked the green wire several times and it is in the write pin connector according to the instructions. Also, after the install, I noticed for some reason my climate control lights are not illuminated. When I press A/C or the recirculate button, they will light up but the backlights around each of the knobs are not coming on and I find it strange that they would all "go out" at the the same time right after doing a cruise control install. Any information or help would be appreciated.

09 (and every other Toyota I know 2005+) has fly by wire Cruise Control. You should have just been able to buy a OE cruise switch, take your airbag off, install cruise switch and be done. Did this to my 07 5 lug years ago (plus installed OE intermittent wiper stalk) and seems like Toyota uses the same cruise switch for every model they make anymore.

WTF....your sentencing and entire post makes absolutely no sense! Elaborate and don't be vague.

The intermittent wiper stalk is a standalone module, that plugs in, in place of the base level-equipped 2 speed wipers, enabling intermittent wiper speed control. Many have done this mod.

_I Think_ he's saying that in theory, that taking a unit meant for a higher-trim package with cruise control, and plugging it into place of the base of the steering column will get the functionality. I've seen reference to this being done on a 2016 SR here. I don't know whether this is applicable to second gens.

The OP requested assistance in trouble shooting his install, and not what he should have done.
HackD, your expertise is always appreciated

Fiesty in here, good lawd ya'll.

And indeed, I did not help OP with his issue as I have no idea what in the install instructions were for the brand unit he installed and provided none of the wiring schematics for his install or pics to point in a direction of where he went wrong.

Not feisty, merely defusing/trying to interpret .. it wasn't 100% clear to me either, but i gave it the old college try.

Something like this - aftermarket - not sure if any forum advice given, is going to be of assistance when things go sideways, unfortunately. A lot of unknown variables to choose from.

I am assuming that the OP has had the climate controls/radio stack apart to find the wiring he was looking to tap into. FWIW I have had the climate control lights go out in the past, with radio installs/reinstalls/messing around in the dash. Check to make sure the connection pins in the housing aren't corroding, or that you haven't inadvertently bent or pushed back a pin into the connector housing. The pins also tend to get dusty with surface corrosion, over time. I brightened the accessible pins up with some 400 grit sandpaper one of the last times everything was apart, as the off-again/on-again condition of the connection was aggravating me, in the reinstall.

There is also not a whole lot of space behind the climate control module .. if you had it out, check to make sure that the wiring harness is routed correctly and not putting a physical strain on the connection, to cause an intermittent or complete open circuit.

The other alternative - you've somehow crossed polarity in the dashboard lighting and blown part of the circuit out. You would have smelled/seen something if that happened, i think. I would look at the former, rather than the latter as the more likely possibility.

    FWIW..

@liltaco09 I know this doesn't help your issue, with an aftermarket unit - but related to my above ramblings, this is a parts list required for an '08 OEM retrofit with manual transmission, as posted on facebook today.

@HackD I have pulled my climate control out and tested the bulbs on a battery with alligator clips. They are both fine but still do not illuminate whenever I turn my headlights on. I am lost on what it would be because my first thought would be a blown fuse, but I highly doubt there would be a fuse for just those two lights that could have blown. Any additional help would be appreciated
