This is my first post but it seems like a good place to start. I'm getting ready to put my name on the title of a '17 Quicksand 4wd. Absolutely love the looks of the truck. Had a 2008 DCLB 4wd SR5. Traded it for a 2009 Honda Pilot due to needing a larger family vehicle. Been driving it for about 7 years now. Getting used to the new Tacoma driving position/steering column is proving difficult in this 5 day test drive. Pilot kinda spoils a person with extra space and fully adjustable power seat. Ready for a change though.
No real mods intended. LED changes and a little more chrome. It is amazing how many mods I read about. Totally awesome to see it! Mine is a daily driver. Mostly street and some minimal off road but nothing serious. 20170617_104240.jpg

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
Tinted windows and TRD grey shift knob and possibly a bed cover down the road but pretty much stock.

I have plenty of other things to spend my money on!

Honestly, if I wasnt looking to mod my truck, then why would I even be here or a member of TW (learn how to change oil or cabin filter? those tips are awesome BTW...LOL) I didnt intend on spending my hard earned cash on modding my Taco, but this darn TW forum just forces me to buy crap I never thought I needed....Like, rubber bed mats, Clips to hold the passenger side floor mats from moving forward, LED interior and headlights, Tailgate Pop and Lock, etc.....You get the picture...Now I am wanting remote start with Smartstart and Clazzio seat covers and the list still continues everyday......gone are the days of just tinting the windows and upgrading the stereo. Its driving my wife nuts.:angrygirl: Everytime a new package comes in from Amazon or Ebay, she just shakes her head. At least I am not wanting a lift and new wheels.

    Good looking out.

For those thy may not know, if you search Pay it Forward and select in the title there are a number of threads. I try to do something every now and then to keep up good karma.

Happy to do it. Hope the shipping goes smooth. I tried to reinforce the tabs with cardboard and the UPS store bubble wrapped it and lots and lots....and lots of peanuts. It's up to the FedEx boys to treat it with love. LOL.

Let me know if you can't find the grille instructions...I'm not mechanical at all and it was a simple swap....maybe 15 minutes or so. And maybe you can find a local TW member near by if you need help.

I bought it to just drive. When I purchased I planned no mods, other than the N-Fab step bars.

Then I decided I want A/T tires when the stock Bridgestones wear out.

Then I decided I wanted a 3 inch lift/level when its time to do shocks at 50k (at ~38k now).

And black wheels to go with.

But honestly, that's all. It's a daily. Get to work, take the dog to the park/beach, Lowe's/Home Depot runs, snowboarding trips, etc. Nothing crazy, no need for a big build. I just fell in love with the level look.

I want that 86 IROC!! Currently working out funding to buy a 3rd gen Camaro in a few years, if the wife will allow a 2nd "fun" car. I'm selling her on the idea the GTO is the "fun car" and this would be the "project" lol. I want to get one beat to CRAP, and renovate the whole interior, repaint, beef up the suspension, and LS swap it. It would be the weekend toy for canyon runs/autocross.

I'm glad see some others leave their truck basically stock. I thought I was only one. I know the Leer cover was a sizeable purchase. But, I did not like the leaking cover that come stock on it. Plus, Leer cover provides for a lot more security for what is under cover.

Shift Sense Pro, HomeLink Mirror, Screen Protector, Tinted Windows, Now onto the expensive stuff
Lift, wheels & tires. These are the 3 mods I've done to every truck I've owned. I do it mostly because I like the look. I don't care if anyone else like it or not. I haven't done it to this truck but I will eventually.

The most expensive mod I've done is the ShiftSense. I've put a screen protector on the nav screen and got a free HomeLink mirror from the dealer. I think the ShiftSense is the only thing that could be considered a mod or "not stock".

I won't do any lighting, bumper changes or anything else. Maybe a seat cover, floor mats or minor stuff like that. But I don't think those are really considered making a vehicle not stock. I guess it depends on how technical you want to get. Is a new bed mat considered not stock? I'll be getting one of those eventually too.

I have no plans to mod mine other tha adding a TRD skid plate and up the tire size to 265/75/16 and then I'm done. When I got rid of my 11 Taco it was completely stock and tons of people wanted it because it was unmodded and only had 42k miles. I like how my truck looks and rides bone stock.

Bought it thinking that. After viewing everyone's trucks here. I ended up spending 3k in the first month of ownership and plan on another 1500 in the next few weeks. This forum is bad for your wallet.

To me it just depends on what you want. A Taco, like say a Wrangler, is a very personal vehicle so do whatever you want to do, or not do, to it and enjoy it. I just like the stock looks of mine but do want a bigger, more aggressive tire. I've done small things like bed mat, all weather mats, and things but I like it as is. I also think some of the modded trucks look great too. To each their own - enjoy those trucks!

Okay, I just did my first mod. As I said earlier, I don't plan to extensively mod this truck. I just bought it Tuesday and it goes back in later today to have Predator bars/steps installed, and I'm also getting a Extang tonneau cover and a bed mat. Those last two aren't really mods, though, the truck remains very stock.

I had a 2011 Tundra that I traded in on this TRD OR DCLB. Here's a sort of side-by-side comparison of the two when I picked the new one up at the dealership on Tuesday:

    IMG_1767 3.jpg

Back when I first bought that truck I joined a Tundra forum and learned of Andres Diaz and his devil-horn Toyota logos, decided I wanted one, had to wait several months as he can only make them twice a year (some sort of trademark issue with Toyota), but finally did, and put it on the grill of the Tundra. Over the six years I had the Tundra it got occasional comments, people seemed to like it and even guys in the service department at the dealership would ask where I got it, etc. When I traded the Tundra in earlier this week I went on a hunt through my house to find the OEM grill logo, was able to locate it, and removed the devil-horns and replaced them with the original logo. I simply thought I'd be hanging or attaching them to the wall in my garage or basement as a memento of the white Tundra.

So yesterday I was eyeballing the OEM grill logo on the new truck, and thought "damn if it doesn't look like it's close to the same size." I went into the house and got the devil-horns and they appeared identical. So........

    IMG_1774 2.jpg

    IMG_1776.jpg

Perfect fit. Easy switcheroo. I poked the stock logo away in the same place in the house that the Tundra one was located so if/when I sell or trade it years hence I'll be able to salvage the devil-horns. I wonder what the odds were that on two different models of truck, 6 years apart, they'd both be the same in this small aspect? I suppose Toyota standardizes certain parts, and am happy that this little remnant of the Tundra is now on the grill of the Tacoma!
