The Tacoma has been known for a solid, reliable truck that you will likely get tired of before it gets tired.

Curious people's experiences with the latest gen model... Please list mileage when giving your thoughts.

    Thanks so much,

Best truck ever! After owning 3 Toyota trucks, (two were gas guzzling but great Tundras) this one has been a joy in the 22k I've put on it.

Great gas mileage for a truck, everything works as it should and so far so good!

    Cheers!

Almost 10k on the clock. Happy but with mods. Steel brakes lines to eliminate spongy brake feel. Shift Sense Pro to correct shifting. Tinted windows to reflect some of the heat here in 100+ degree Nor Cal. Plugged holes on LCA. Remote start for convenience. Many mods for appearance.

have you ever heard of this thing called a warranty? Take it in and get it fixed, or if you're to lazy to that at least stop whining about it everywhere.

Sorry Sir, not whining just stating a fact. Yeah I'm dreading on taking it in to the service department because my hard plastic interior will be all scratched up after they pull the dash out and put it back in. Going up to the dealership body shop next week and having them swap my SR5 grille out and put a chrome TRD Sport grill on my truck so I'll walk over to the service department and talk to my service advisor about getting a appointment to get it fixed. If the problem comes back I'll trade it in.

Got mine on June 2nd so not enough time to say. I had one weird thing with the BSM acting weird and saying it's not working but after I parked it and started it up later it went away. We shall see

This is my first Toyota and truck. My truck is pretty damn great. It took me a while to get used to the shift points and throttle response. I even installed a ShiftSense Pro to test that out. I actually like the default points better, but also like having the option for taller shift points on call.

My complaints are with design/equip choices more than anything; nothing has malfunctioned.
    • Not having a tailgate lock actuator by default
      • I installed a Pop'n Lock
    • Not having a tailgate security feature to prevent theft
      • I installed a hose clamp as deterrent, coupled with pop'n lock
    • Bed cubbies don't come with a keyed door; said doors are plastic, which seems flimsy
    • One would think/hope paying for tow package would include a trailer brake controller, whether integrated or separate unit
    • Hood seems excessively large, but you get used to it
    • USB port doesn't output enough power to charge a device
    • No rear seat USB or 12v ports without doing a mod
    • Qi charger is gimmick, causes excessive heat on device, placement of device is important
    • Rear diff breather location compared to the other breathers is baffling
      • About to install a dual breather that is extended behind a tail light for rear diff
    • Entune is meh
    • Map updates cost $$
    • Entune pairing to device is horrible
      • All incoming texts and calls displays the phone # instead of the contact that is synced over
      • Clearing paired device with data from unit and repairing doesn't resolve
    • This is my pet peeve. I really want the speed limit notice in the cluster HUD to show on the digital speedometer screen, not the compass screen.

My only complaints so far is with the restrictions placed on the performance and response of the engine. Also with the fit and finish of some interior and exterior panels.

Other than that, I really really enjoy the truck!

    20k miles.

Aside from intentional design issues with the engine performance I have:

    1. A howling (loudly) differential that Toyota now says is normal since the first one that howled was replaced and this new one didn't fix the issue. Great engineering there...."oh yeah that's an issue" "uh oh our fix didn't work....just say it's normal now so we are off the hook for the warranty." This is my biggest issue and the one that is making me look into trading the truck. I can't stand it and it is loud enough to hear with the radio on at 20+!

    2. Kazoo noise through the window seals in cross winds (this is rare though)

    3. Clutch pedal sounds like an old wooden floorboard (I've heard this is easy to fix)

    4. Passenger side dash rattles excessively during cold weather

    5. Weird high frequency steering wheel vibration at ~2k RPM, haven't felt this in any other vehicle. It's probably a poor design in regards to damping out normal engine/exhaust vibration.

    6. Sometimes when I start the truck the head unit restarts like 5 times. I assume this isn't a huge deal.

    7. I popped my hood this week and noticed all of the adhesive joints that are directly over the engine are melted/destroyed.

I think that's it. So overall, mostly minor issues but one issue (howling) that is so annoying it has me seriously considering a different vehicle.

Only 4700 Miles (local commuter). Have a couple rattles that can be fixed on the inside plastics, but Powertrain wise, this truck is solid.
