So, this thing really works. Kind of a surprise. The Fort Collins Store thought it was cute but had no problem setting it up and supplying the SIM card. I was in the store about 15 minutes and walked out connected and ready to go.
There was no activation fee, I was charged $5 for the SIM card which was supposed to be free, but since they waived the activation fee, I didn't complain.

I have two bars out of five of service in the house. Verizon usually has one bar so not too bad.
Netflix loaded and took an extra 10 seconds before it started to play and has been going while using other apps. I assume with more bars of service, the speed will increase.
Also managed to send invoices for the day, so it has already made me money. :)

How is this thing any different than using your phone as a hotspot? Just the data plan?

$20/mo unlimited plan is ONLY for this device. Anything else is going to use your data and cost more. I guess if you're grandfathered into an unlimited plan and managed to get a hotspot on the account, then you'd be good to go. But i doubt they'd let you do that now.

I think it's just the cheap data plan.

Verizon dropped the unlimited plan a few years back.

Not all of us want to perform 'discount services' for that rate. Too much of that during the day job.

Nor have 17 lines to get the rate per line down that much.
