Thanks guys, I went there and then ran out real quick and did it. However, when I was trying to solder the Dang thing in on the edges 1 of them slipped loose cause I was shaking really bad and knocked off the board completely. So, I had a piece of chopstick I used to hold it steady in place and had my hand resting on the counter top in the kitchen with my hand pressing against the Microwave to steady my hand then just touched the soldering iron to it a couple of times and said to myself, "heck with it, it will work or it won't. Hahaha, it worked just fine. Thanks again, for making my day. So, if anyone had to deal with this, don't sweet it, I don't think you can mess up too awfully bad after what I did to it before it got soldered in place, LOL.

Every summer mine goes out and it always need to be resoldered. Then it's fine for the rest of the year. Starting to think the resistors themselves should be replaced. I've done this fix 3 times now but haven't done it again yet. Figured since I have to do it again I'll just replace the resistors but can't find any that style. Anyone have info on where to find them?

Mine went out about 4 years ago after removing the circuit board the breaks were very easy to see. I simply gave it a quick solder and has been great ever since

Thank you OP or whomever posted this fix! All I did was go to Harbor freight and pick up a soldering iron and some solder and follow the simple instructions and it is working again.

I have soldered mine a few times now, I get about a month and it stops working again. Pain in the ass, I solder it imo well but it never lasts. You can only hold the iron there until the solder melts then gets sucked into the connection. That's how soldering works as far as I know!

Send it away to get fixed. Less than $20.00 and be done with it

I have a unique situation with my second gen on the overhead, every time I start my truck or if I'm driving for a bit, it always turns off by itself. Still works, just an annoying little issue. Any suggestions what it could be?

Mine did that for a few months and then stopped working completely. I sent it to the repair service on eBay and it is good to go.

Just finished doing this repair 2 minutes ago. Did it once before a few years back. It's even easier than I remember it being the first time. If you know how to solder, this repair, including de and re assembly is about a 15 minute job.

Props to OP. I love my temp/compass gauge.

Try getting some bigger leaded resistors and bend the leads to fit on the SMT pads. As long as they fit and are the same value, it will work and the leaded parts have more surface area to dissipate heat so they won't desolder themselves.

Maybe try using flux, if you are not.

I re soldered mine and in a few months it failed again so I did it again using a stronger solder and also I found out that it builds up extreme heat of its own besides the sun beating down on it so now I just turn it on when I want to know the temp outside then turn it back off so it dont happen again.

I thought it was flux core solder, but I also have flux I can try.
