Has anyone done recessed lighting blind? I have a flat roof with no attic and want to tackle this job in my living room. I'm already dreading all of the drywall I'm going to have to repair :goingcrazy:

I'm curious, has anyone hired one of those dudes outside of Home Depot. You know what i mean. Im attempting a little project to route some coaxial and ethernet cable through the crawl space under my apartment, and fish them up through two wall panels ill be mounting. Towards the front of my place, the crawl space goes from about 4 feet to 2 feet tall, and it will require crawling on the dirt. There are creepy crawlies down there for sure, black widows, etc. I would rather hire someone to do the work.

How much would i pay a dude for that? Shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

Spend the $10, wear this and do it yourself...... you'll know it's done right without kinking the cables because you're doing it.

Actually I had just ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0008F5HIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TPztzbM7VWPPQ

I also got a bunch of foggers. Going to nuke the whole crawl space. You're right about getting it done right , I want to clip the cables to the floor joists as they are not laying on the ground.

Once I cut the hole for the wall plate, and put the fish line in, would there be a board at you base of the wall I would need to drill into, in order to get to the crawl space?

It's an exterior wall if that would make a difference.

Hard to say. What's done up there is different than what we do down here. Vice versa. Could be lift station?
As far as witching rods, they've never worked for me.

Does your framed wall sit on brick, concrete or cmu block like this? https://www.google.com/search?clien...0k1j33i21k1.wrufK7RwMlI#imgrc=0xi4Cu0GCryNqM:

Either way it'll be roughly the same detail. You'll drill next to the rim joist into the stud cavity and through the sole plate.

It's 1928 construction, no insulation I can see between the joists. Can't say much more than that before I get down there, I'll try to get some pics of the area. Like I said, the access area is in the bedroom, with about 4ft of space, once I get under the living room that's about 50ft away, it gets to almost 2ft of space.

    More siding fun

We had a change of plans that eliminated the top trim I intended to use at the top of the channel siding where it meets the 2x6 fir t&g roof decking

I intended to use a rabbeted trim to hide any imperfections in the upper edge of the siding to get a consistent 1/4" reveal between the trim and the roof decking

This 1/4" gap acts as our upper vent for the rainscreen system and is the exit point for the drying convection current that will exist behind the siding in the rainscreen cavity

The owner liked the way we had tightly notched the siding around the glulam rafters and wanted a similar look at the siding to decking transition

Thats not really a problem where the siding meets the decking at a level condition but becomes more difficult to acheive up the rake walls especially with the low pitch

The 2 in 12 roof pitch is 9.5 degrees , therefore we needed to cut our siding at 80.5 degrees

Very sharp and very hard to make a consistent reveal if cut by hand , so with quite a few cuts like that I rigged up a shooting board to cut that angle consistently the same

I built a jig out of plywood that captures the siding with a stop on either side , and a fence set at the prescribed angle of 80.5 (2 in 12)

Now all I had to do to get accurate cuts was slide a piece of siding into the jig and run the table of my circular saw with a 40 tooth finishing blade tight to the fence for consistently accurate cuts

Given the current heat wave (pushing 100), I've been doing indoor projects. Tackling the ceiling fans this weekend. We just bought a new place, like brand new place. All the rooms are pre-wired for fans except the kitchen and dining room, just no fans. All said rooms have no lighting at all currently.

Threw one in the living room and the loft, doing the master bedroom tomorrow. It's nice to have it all prewired, just slap up the fixture and go. Less than an hour for each install.

I'm also tossing in the TV mount tomorrow, and hopefully a couple buddies can come by and help me put the TV up (everything is also pre-wired, for lack of a better term, to run all TV cables behind the walls).

OK, i went down and took some pics and to see how the foggers did. I saw a couple dead roaches, no spiders. I guess thats a good sign? I have not gone all the way to the front of the building, only as far as i can go without getting on my belly.

Here is what the edge of the wall looks like. The third pic is how far i need to go, the place where the cables would be fished from is about half way between the concrete patio foundation and the far wall.

Nice thing about this apartment, even though being from the 1920's, they upgraded the kitchen and added central air. I found a 18v Dewalt battery down there if anyone wants it.

Come work on my project, nice and cool under my building. :D

Weve got the same idea I think. Im trying to fix the shit rigged job Time Warner did with the wiring at my place. Plus adding a Cat6 cable from the router to the bedroom. I have a 65" Samsung TV on the way, getting ready for Game of Thrones next month.

Yes, it appears so. Its an old four-plex north of downtown LA, circa 1920's. Ive told the Korean landlord, she had a glazed over look when i tried to explain it.

That doesn't look good and given your location would be bad during an earthquake which would explain why it currently looks like that.

Your framing and stem wall are similar to what I posted above. Drill up next to the vertical piece of wood. That's the rim joist and you will pop up in a stud bay if you measure correctly.

Yea the landlord already hates me for bitching her out over a tree they cut down. You asked about redwood being used for all the framing. Is that not ever done in modern construction?
