Haha so idk what this guy was thinking.... he's by Marysville by the looks of it and said a 12k winch couldn't get him out... idk how, guessing they don't know how to use one. He has a tractor trying right now. Saw it on the norcal 4x4 page FB_IMG_1498277734193.jpg FB_IMG_1498277712873.jpg

Quick question for you guys and nearly impossible to answer unless it's common. I've developed a popping noise in the front end of my truck or at least I've just started noticing it may have been there for a while. It only happens once like when I back up then it will happen once again when I go forward. It also will do it if come to a complete stop and then turn the wheels left to right. It makes a Creeking noise for a few clock to clock turns then it will pop. Then go back to creeking until it builds up and pops again. I just went through and greased everything and checked torque. No play in the tie rods and everything is right. Any suggestions

Also only 25,000 miles on it but I've had a few good wheeling trips including Moab

If it's popping then it sounds like binding.

Can you feel it in the steering wheel?

Edit: does the wheel jump? Or do the wheels jump after the pop. Like a tick. Like they load and release.

Googling it seems a lot of them do it and it may be normal.

It seems to be coming from the lower control arm. How much front to back movement should be expected out of the lower control arm bushings

No can almost feel it maybe in the pedal. The only thing that coincides when I was laying under the truck and having my wife move front and back was the lowe control arms seemed to be moving in conjunction with the popping and I have probably a half inch play maybe less front to back movement in the bushing. But the bushings aren't known

Maybe the alignment? Castor causing a roll up/roll down with the steering? Would that have an affect with the lca?

I'm honestly a noob with rack and pinion.

That does not sound like steering.

    Sounds like a bushing though.

Yea I definitely don't believe it to be steering related. There is no binding and everything feels tight and looks good. I feel like it's the bushings on the lower control arms. Problem is I don't know if it's been there or it's new. I always have the radio on and the ac blowing. If I have the windows up and ac on low you can't even hear it in the cab so this potentially could have been there for months.

I hear all sorts of popping on the trails but that's expected when there is strain on the suspension and what not

Time to start listening over speed bumps and other "on the road" slow speed obstacles.

If it's suspension related it'll probably show up all the time. Seems premature for a bushing to wear out but maybe not.

    Good luck!

Also should be noted that it does it in 4wd or 2 but that isn't even relevant since I can replicate it by turning the wheels from lock to lock multiple times

Not enough to have a build thread.
If you can make it happen standing still, I'd be down to chase it with you if you want.
