I have only ever used ECT with a purpose once. I was towing two dirt bikes and a quad on a utility trailer and had to get on the freeway from a dead stop on an uphill on ramp. I used it from 0 to 50mph and then turned it off.

That's the wonderful thing about this world. We can make choices. The button is there if you want to use it, and it is fully supported by the maker.

I guess it's time for me to drive with it off for a month and see how I like learning mode.

in a way yes..it disables the atkinson cycle which when active holds the intake valve open during the beginning of the exhaust stroke.

No, it does not deactivate the simulated atkinson.

No, that's not how simulated atkinson works. The intake valve is held open during the compression stroke, which pushes mixture back into the intake tract

I only run ECT when I'm towing or hauling shit... and when I'm in a bad mood.

I can't tell any difference in ECT being on or off, but don't confuse that as me saying the truck has enough power. Relative to my desires, the power on this thing is low! But it was that or the Chevy whatever? No other mid size truck options. I think the Chevy had more power but looks wise I couldn't do it.

You don't notice a difference between ect on/off??

Are you sure the button is working? ECT mode makes it a jumpy little thing with way more throttle response.

I have zero issues with my truck's power. It's a truck and it has enough for me. I never use the ECT button and once my slow learning tranny finally adapted to my driving habits my truck was fine. It takes some time for the throttle response and tranny to adjust. I have zero issues now. The truck does feel a little lazy sometimes at lower speeds but so did my second gen. I'm happy.

Agreed. Way more throttle response! It's night and day difference.

Where does anything say that ECT makes the throttle response change? It's only later shift points

Later shift points and higher RPMs = better response. Try pressing the throttle 1/4 the way with it off, then try with ECT active. There's a noticeable difference. When I deactivate ECT on the move the RPM's drop around 500-600.
