I'm hoping for the same here, it was cloudy yesterday but we didn't get a lot of rain in town...maybe the mountains did though

Looks like my fishing is fuqued for a while. There is a river on the other side of the houses in this picture.[IMG]

First fish ever caught on a fly I tied...

It was a squirmy worm and it was terribly done, but still...

    Congrats.

My first fly was a prince nymph, had a lot of instruction while I was tying it. Went out the next day and caught a nice brown with it. Definitely rewarding to catch them on your own flies.

Rubber nets are the way to go much better for the fish, and hooks don't get snagged in them. As far as being shallow that would depend on what net you pick out. My net has a 12" deep bag the fish don't pop out. The rubber is very flexable i have landed plenty of fish that had alot of fight left in them never lost one. Do yourself a favor and look at stevensnets.com handmade here in the USA great people and top quality product. I have the 27R it is the best net i ever had.

Thinking to get OPST Commando head for my wt. 9 single hand. Do you guys have any experience/thoughts on it.

Getting realy fond of single hand spey casting. Last year bought Rio Single Hand Spey line for my wt. 7 and was reasonably impressed.

Holy Shitsky!! So in my 30+ years of venturing up to the north Maine Woods, my # was called. So I was heading home from northern Maine this morning and at about 7:30 (1/2 hour into a 3.5 hour trip home) on a state highway doing 55 (posted speed limit). I'm always on the alert for moose suddenly appearing in the road and voila - it happened. A big cow appears in the road from some trees about 100' in front of me. She was quartering away towards the other side of the road. Instead of hitting my breaks (which lowers the front end of the vehicle and can cause the moose to be launched onto the hood/windshield by taking out its legs
, I accelerated some and veered into the other lane (there were no other vehicles coming) to avoid hitting her in the rear left. Well she decided to keep going in the same direction so I got as far to the left (the other lane) as possible and floored it. She made primary contact right on my drivers side window/door. It was like my truck was just hip checked by a 600lb lineman. My window shattered (but the tint film kept most intact). I just saw a wall of dark brown fur. After pulling over I saw her in my rear view mirror continuing to run into the woods. I don't think she was injured. I feel very, very fortunate that this wasn't a head on collision as those generally don't end so well.

I pulled over and threw on the hazards and got out to call in a report and inspect the damage. No cell reception, so I resorted to 911 to get the proper authorities (local Sheriff). He wasn't available so they took the report over the phone. So it looks like every part of my passenger side from the antenna back has some damage. I had my canoe on my Yakima Rack on my cap and I think her head hit the outer edge of the front bar as it was bent & dislodged. Canoe was still attached and didn't fall off (Phew). Passenger side window, mirror & door seem toast. There's a dent in the pillar. Passenger door has some decent dents and I hear shit rattling inside. There's a couple of dents way back on my rear quarter pane. Those seem manageable (but I'm no expert). Didn't even try to open the front passenger door. The rear door opens, but seems to open a little harder than the other side.

    :itllbuffout:

Off to my insurance company in the morning & then for some estimates.

Thanks Man! My underwear would beg to differ!

My dog was sleeping in the back seat and seemed unphased by the incident.

I see whitetail deer every day going to work. A couple of weeks ago two decided to bolt, one in front of the truck, one went behind. Pucker factor went way up. I can imagine what you were feeling.

Glad you are Ok! Could have been much worse! Accelerating through an animal or object in the road is such a foreign concept for most people, but it is exactly what they trained us to do in my emergency vehicle operations course. When I hit a deer last July, my wife was upset that I didn't try and brake until after I had collided with the animal (I knew there were 3 or 4 other cars behind me not too far back and didn't want to make the situation worse by trying to avoid the animal or an emergency stop.) I coasted through the deer and then safely signalled and slowed to pull off the roadway to evaluate the damage.
