It's not rocket science. Ask yourself how does an insurance company make money? They are some of the most profitable companies you will find.

There is a reason why extended warranties are very profitable to dealerships and/or the salesman selling them. Does it pay off to get an extended warranty? sometimes but the house usually wins overall. An analogy: Vegas (Insurance companies) wasn't built on winners.

You were right to buy the extended warranty as long as you got it for a solid price. The price is what it comes down to. Toyota is the only vehicle manufacturer who has an extended warranty that is actually worth buying. Really it is the only warranty that I have ever seen worth buying with any product to be honest. I bought an 8y/125k for $1200 for a 2017 Tacoma DCSB OR. I clicked with the finance guy though and we shot the shit for an hour. He pretty much told me all his sales tactics and how much money he makes for an hour. I actually only wanted the 7y/125k for $1200 but he typed in an 8 instead of a 7 for me. We also lived in the same city, so that helped. The fact that you can sell it back at a pro-rated price, get a total refund if you only use 10% of the warranty cost during your covered period, use it for resale incentive, and all the roadside assistance and other perks make the warranty worth buying...for the right price that is.
