I've been offered a Toyota Hilux Diesel in Canada - is it a good deal?

?

Buy RHD 2002 Hilux Tiger Diesel from Thailand or local 2010ish Tacoma? (price and kms about same)

  1. I would buy the Hilux Tiger Diesel from Thailand.

    Hi all,

Here is a question for you: I live in Canada and I've been offered a 2002 Toyota Hilux Tiger 4x4, with the famed D4D diesel engine. It's a right-hand drive truck from Thailand. It's in great shape mechanically and visually, it's got about 145tkm on it and has been used in Bangkok as a company truck, so it's not a miled-out farm mule. The truck has been mechanically inspected and I will get it completely street-legal and ready to register, with all papers and out of province inspection here in Alberta. The price I'm being asked is CAD$28,000 (roughly USD$21,000). I would love to drive what is essentially an indestructible Tacoma diesel. Another cool thing is that there isn't another one like that around in, like, North America!
Now, here's my question: Seeing that I could get a 2009-2013 Tacoma with about the same mileage for that money locally, should I buy the Diesel Hilux? Would you buy it? What are your thoughts? I'd really appreciate the help as I'm trying to make my decision.

    Thanks!

    Like, so many.
Tough call, man. Can't go wrong either way. It would be very cool to have a one of a kind truck.

    None yet :D
The Tiger imo looks like a Tacoma mixed with a 4runnr mixed with an old 95' Toyota pickup. But it's diesel and in a way, has its own foreign and unique look. If I could make the choice I'd get the Tiger because 1. You'd be amongst the few who have them here and 2.its a diesel Tacoma
