My 15' Tacoma BTS Audio Adventure (SQ setup with some authority)

This is the first truck I have had for many years now that will enable me to install a legitimate system and while it has been slow coming I am finally finalizing all the debate I have had going on in my head of how to go about things. All of my (or friends/family I've done) systems have always been focused more around SPL type builds. While I have not ever truly achieved an SPL worthy build I always went for the noisy, loose bass that you can hear down the block and flexes your truck till bolts start coming loose. So this system I am focusing more on s high end, SQ style setup that still has the ability to get down low.

After some scouring on the forum I found Mr. Marv and after some reading on his work, decided to contact him with some questions. Soon after I got in on the group buy he had last year picking up some Hybrid Audio Technologies mids and his adapters for everything. Mr. Marv has been very helpful with his advice and patient with my indecisiveness. I would for sure recommend him and the products he supports for anyone looking to get into a higher end system.

I am planning on going with a behind the seat (BTS) box, originally shooting for a single 10" in the 1000w range. The sub I originally found and decided on (Ascendant Audio Chaos) had since been discontinued and made me have to re-think my setup, realizing that if I stay with a single 10 I will end up having to reduce my sub wattage by nearly half. It was during this stage and looking for a single 10 that would cure my appetite for bass I started asking Mr. Marv about different subs that would work. One of them in particular was the DC Audio LVL 2 sub, when I mentioned this sub Marv brought up being able to make a dual sub box that could still house my amps as I originally planned. The shallow mounting depth and .5ft^3 that this sub needs are a combination that seamlessly worked together for the minimal room BTS. The Sundown SD-3 was also brought up and while I know that sub is great, I'm not sure it would give me the punch I am looking for comparing reviews of the two.

I have looked at numerous brands of subs but if anyone has any ideas of better subs that will fit my application I am all ears. I am staying away from "shallow mount" subs and any brand you can pretty much get off the shelf (JL, Kicker, RF etc.) My max mounting depth pending magnet size is 5.7"

I'm waiting patiently to hear back from Mr. Marv on what my grand total with him will be but as of right now this is what I have written out for the full build. Pictures and more info to come as items arrive and the build comes together more.

I'm doing a similar setup, only running the Clarus 6.5 up front, and a single Clarus 10" behind the rear seats. Powering everything with an Arc 1100.5. I'm pretty pumped to get everything in and running. Sounds like you'll have a nice setup once you're done. As far as the subs go, it seems people on this forum really like the SA subs, and from what I understand, they love big power, and will knock when you feed them. That being said, those DC's look like they'll do some damage, too.

 

Sweet! Sounds like you will have some nice staging, bit more of a surround sound setup, something that everything should have the chance to sound good on. I bet watching movies will be the shit in your truck!

The SD3 subs are pretty popular and they actually fit the truck better than anything I've found yet. I have read nothing but good about them too so maybe down the line I'll buy some and give them a try! I'll also have to look around to compare them more to the DCs. I very thorough review I had read on the lvl 3s is what made me decide to try DC out and also I don't see anyone putting them in the Tacomas so that factors in too. Lol

I've been in contact with Ascendant Audio and their new line is about to drop. Depending on the magnet structure and depth, if their subs will work in the box Marv builds me, the plan is to piggyback another 1100.1 and bump my RMS Watts up to 2k!!

 

Nice man, everything you're looking at is quality. I think you'll be happy with any of your choices, as long as you're buying high quality subs that can handle decent wattage from your Arc 1100.1, and as long as @Mr Marv can cram them into your box.
