For you who have German Shepherds, does your dog(s) follow you wherever you go? Mine gets up and guards the door of whatever room I'm in and of course going outside means grab a toy. She's very vocal about dinner and doesn't really enjoy riding in the truck, but is always ready to hop in if she thinks we're going. If we walk somewhere she's never been, she vocalizes the whole way.
    What does your dog do?

They were both our dogs. We are married lol. Plus if we can leave kids, we can leave dogs.

Our dogs were the same dogs. And had been boarded many times. And if we left out kids, we can leave our furry kids.

That was on if the rare times he would get on the couch. He was a sweetie. He broke his leg right in front of me. It was close to the most excruciating thing I have ever witnessed...

Not really. She's very independent but also loves to be with me. At the dog parks and beach she runs around but always comes and checks in very frequently.

Mine has to follow me every place, if we are in the house and I'm in a room with the door closed he will lay against the door until I open it. He not much of a talker though.

Meet Maggie...my eldest sister and my b.i.l. are vets and own their own practice. Someone left Maggie at their clinic some time overnight in a crate. There was a note that they can't care for her anymore. They think she's about 9 y/o. Anyway, here she is on her way to her new home. She follows me everywhere!!
When I take a shower, she waits for me by laying on my bed....when I leave for work she lays on my chair in the kitchen!!!
She's fun to have around...also, has a lot of energy for her age.
And of course, my wife spoils her

She sounds like a real funny character. There are three of us here. Wife, son, and myself and she will patrol the house if we are in different rooms so she can keep an eye on all of us. If we are all in the living room and adjoining kitchen she will lay across the threshold between to two to keep an eye on us. You have to be quick when heading to the bathroom and be certain to latch the door or when you sit down you will find that she is there to provide morale support. More than once a cold wet nose has poked me while in the shower.

She does the standard barking for door knockers and big trucks and when we let service providers in the house. On walks she only verbalizes when you stop too long to talk to a neighbor or similar as she wants to see everything and once she's seen and smelled a place or person she's over it and ready to move on.

She loves car rides. In the Tacoma she wants in the back seat and complains if I don't put at least one window down for her to sightsee. In the LandCruiser she sits in the front left seat - its right hand drive - and does the same. No matter which car it is she can't wait to get in and then whines for the first few minutes and then settles into her routine.

When I tell my seven year old son to go to bed while he is picking out the story book she hunts the house for her stuffed animal and waits at the door of his bed. Once he is tucked in she jumps up there to snuggle with him and acts like she is listening to us read the book to him. She sleeps with him for awhile and then us for awhile alternating back and forth.

I will say that as a family dog she's been perfect and we are set on having a female if we are limited to one. She's a perfect example why people should give adult rescue dogs a chance as she knows what a real loving home is like and is grateful to be in it.

If I was to get a small dog, it would likely be a Dachshund. They just seem to have a lot of character and personality.

When I was active on FB, I followed . The guy and his wife live on some acreage in Texas and rescue dogs. Last I saw, they had something like 25 dogs, mostly small. Crazy.

Bubbles wasn't a rescue. If I recall, she was one of a surprise litter one of their rescues had. She was born without front legs. The cool part is her owner used a 3d printer to make her some wheels. Watching her manage locomotion is quite inspiring. She doesn't seem to know she doesn't have front legs.

    Sometimes humans do good things.

Thank the vets and the scientists that developed the treatment for whatever Jimbo had. They deserve to be acknowledged.

    Sending positive vibes for Jimbo.

My family has had dachshunds for over 50 years. Our last set where Daisy and Rose, born in 1999. Rose passed away last year, but daisy is still kicking around slowly. Daisy is one of the most purebred dachshunds if ever incountered as far as traits and looks. She would hunt possums, raccoons, rabbits, and squirrels. She would average about 1-2 kills a month by trapping them under our shed and then getting ahold of the backs of their necks. She was truly fearless.

My current dachshund, Minnie, has a funny personality. She was a show dog before her last owner dumped off her at a pound because she had developed mammary cancer (she is cancer free now thanks to our local dachshund rescue). She struggles between acting regal versus her natural dog self.

I love hearing stories about people creating innovative devices to help animals have a better life.

Happy for you that he came through. I've been fortunate so far with my three as far as health goes. I hope that fortune continues.

The biggest scare was with my 4-yo, Jelly. Not too long after I adopted her, she consumed something toxic. She wouldn't eat. She couldn't keep anything down if she did, not even water.

There was nothing in our backyard (e.g., pesticides) that she could get a get into and no toxic plants, so it was a mystery. However, she vomited up a slice of apple that didn't come from us. That bothers me to this day. She was on an IV at the vet for two days. Never found out what it was, but she's been healthy since.
