    Hi all,

I'm replacing my stock coilovers (with 160k miles) with newer stock coilovers (with 6k miles), using take-offs from a third gen Taco, from a very generous member of TW.

I can also get the stock UCA from that third gen Taco for a great price, if I wanted. So, two questions:

1.) Are 3rd gen UCA's compatible with 2nd gen Taco's? (everything else stock)
2.) Would it be worth doing so---i.e. are there parts that wear out, perfomance increases with the 3rd gen UCA's, etc.?

Will be DIY-ing, if that matters.

    Thanks.

6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
Not sure. Try looking up the part numbers for both to see if they interchange

Ok...looks like the parts are compatible. Now the second part: Is there any reason to swap old-stock for new-stock?

Yes - newer upper ball joints and newer coilovers will help your ride. The coilovers should give you 1" of lift as well if I am not mistaken.

As a neophyte to Toyota mechanics--why would newer upper ball joints help the ride? (assuming the old ones aren't 'shot')

My upper ball joints aren't showing any play, but they aren't firm like new ones would be. I'm assuming that 2 extra years on yours would put them closer to the point where it would be an acceptable time to replace them since you're getting a good deal and all. Not a huge difference in ride, but it will put it back that much closer to feeling new again.

if you can get em for cheap may as well. Just remember to tighten the bolt that holds the UCA to the frame when the truck IS AT RIDE HEIGHT... meaning weight on the tires.

You will have to bend the inner fender out of the way a bit to get the long bolt out, but its easy to bend and its not much bending at all. Just watch out for the Airbag lines and air conditioning lines when you grab the sheet metal.

Is it possible to remove the ball joints out of the UCA? I would assume the actual metal arms don't wear, just the joint/bushing/wear-surfaces. Only reason I ask is cause I'm shipping them....the UCA's aren't exactly small!

naw best to keep em together. too much of a pain to remove the ball joint, considering that the inner bushings should be replaced as well and those are a BITCH to remove.

Definitely worth another little bit on top of the shipping for the co's.

I think OP already has some being shipped to him with his coilovers - it won't be much more seeing how they're barely any weight compared to co's and they can fit in the same size box?
