There is a definite balance when it comes to restomods and I find that for me most go overboard with it. I have a preference and once you go over that I don't care for the car no matter how much work and money went into it. For me it's ruined. Same goes for some stock cars. They are terrible to look at and a good restomod can make it 100x's better. A fine line it is but I'm more on the stock side of things.

The current popularity of the restomods is a newer trend, though. So is the easy availability of big damn wheels and extreme low-profile tires. Whereas years ago you only had 3-4 custom shops turning out restomods, now there's tons of guys out there that are doing it. I've been into vintage cars since I was a little kid, so by now I know "what I'm looking at" when I see a car, thanks. White or chrome Smoothies aren't new, for sure (They used to call them moon wheels too). But in a 22, 24, 26, etc with a rubber band around the outside, they are. That's new to the mainstream market in the last 10-15 years. NOT custom shops that cut their own wheels, but to every Tom Dick & Harry with a computer

And like you say, it's just my personal preference. Clean, original restored cars are getting rarer and rarer, and backyard mechanics with torches and welders building 'restomods' and 'rat rods' are getting more and more common. That's where part of my dislike for the current popularity of restomods comes from, because you see so many of them being done poorly by people who don't know what they're doing. The other part of it is just that I don't care for the look. I can appreciate the engineering and creativity aspect of one that's well done, but I still don't care for how the finished product looks.

I took these pics Saturday at the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Smokey and the Bandit. Little wet out but still fun.

This first picture is very near the spot where Burt parked to load up 400 cases of Coors. The Coors warehouse is now the brick building with the neon OPEN sign in the window.
This Trans Am is a 78 I believe just by looking at the wheels. I didn't look at the vin but the wheels are not a from a 1977 car. Still bad ass though!

    Great pictures!
And yes, that first T/A is a 78.
Would have loved to attend this event with my gold T/A, but way too much life in the way this time.
Glad you got to take it in.

I wish I could have attended on Thursday and Friday. Burt was there Friday evening but the weather really screwed some things up. On Friday they reenacted the beer warehouse scene in downtown "Texarkana" 3 times. That would have been fun to watch. Hot Pants Hilliard was there on Friday also.

Meanwhile, here in Austin, Texas. What started as a stock mini, is now a little monster with a 5.3L Flex Fuel L59 with a T53, Expedition rear, on 33's.

Google image search of cars and coffee austin will give you a better idea or the selection than I could ever post here. I imagine C&C Vegas is off the chain.

...^^^... I understand now ... the show in ATL is in the giant Perimeter Mall parking lot off some large main highways.

The show in ATL has now become a giant affair if the weather is good.

Velocity TV is usually at this show and filming for their cable TV channel.
