2015 4cyl auto, ~20K miles. all stock. bought new, easy city and highway driving.

have noticed in past month a mild high frequency vibration in the gas pedal when the engine and drivetrain are under more load, bogged down. that is to say, when in a taller gear and lower RPM, often going up slight incline, is when i feel it. first noticed it when in overdrive, and then i dropped it into 3rd (manually) and no longer felt the vibration. but now in past few days am noticing it also in other gears when engine is running slower- and same thing, drop the gear down manually and it goes away. estimated RPM when most noticeable is ~1500-2000.

it's not engine related as it's not consistent with a given RPM. it must be drivetrain related, since that is the variable here, different load on the trans, driveshaft, etc.

still under warranty obviously. i hate to trouble with taking it in unless there's a good chance they can find it. thinking maybe i should wait until it gets worse (if it gets worse) and then may be easier to identify problem.

final thought--- i greased the u-joints about a month prior to this happening-- used mobil one synthetic grease (the red stuff, https://mobiloil.com/en/synthetic-grease/mobil-1-synthetic-grease ). just squirted in a little bit. could there be a compatibility issue here with the original grease and the new grease? seems really unlikely. if not related, then it's a strange coincidence.

    any thoughts? thanks in advance.

I'm kinda reading that wrong,, it kinda seems like you said it was rpm sensitive, then you said it wasn't rpm sensitive. I have a noticeable vibe/drone that kicks in at about 1700 to 2k, but does it in all gears at that rpm. When you drop a gear, your rpms increase, so you don't notice it,, but what about when your rpms get back down in that range and then go back under load? I notice mine in All gears at the same rpm under load. Most noticeable of course in 5th OD because that is when the engine will see the most load/bog. Get that thing in the shop and tell me what they do that fixes it! mine is driving me insane!

sorry for the confusion. i think it sounds like we have the same issue. i will try to clarify--- so when under load as described, and when in that RPM range of about 1500-2000 i will now notice the vibration in seemingly any gear. but if in that same RPM range but not under load, let's say slight decline, i don't notice it. in everyday driving it's there, and it's not there, there, not there, and so on. because of the constant flux, changing of gears, RPM, load, stop and go, etc.
what are the details on your tacoma--- year, engine, miles, etc. have you done anything to investigate this? any thoughts on the grease i mentioned?

yeah mine is only there under load. And if I am carrying a load it is much worse, because of, well, more load. haha. let of the throttle and it stops. Its a 2011 sport with 65k. Ive just done a lot of reading on here, and posting questions. Everything anyone ever says are things in driveline, which would all be speed/load sensitive only, not rpm specific load in any gear. ive greased everything, and changed the transmission mount so far. Just seems to be getting worse. Even changed the harmonic balancer because it had a slight wobble, thinking that might have something to do with it. Nope. ive experimented with it a LOT while driving.. I notice it in all gears,, and even at other rpms too. But that 1700 or so is the sweet spot where it really starts humming. its quite annoying.

mine remains under warranty so i'll be taking mine in at some point most likely. will let you know if they find anything. if mine progresses to the extent you describe, and i'm not able to find a solution, i'm going to be ticked. i hate stuff like this. really can interfere with the enjoyment of driving. it just doesn't feel right.

Yeah,, I cannot drive the truck without constantly messin with it. drives me nuts, makes me wanna sell it. With that and the belt squeak issues I'm still having and a severe oil leak at 60k. clunky noisy brakes, And other little rattles and what not. I'm just not at all impressed.
