Winds blowing to N Right now. NW end of the Verde socked in thick. Prescott Valley socked in.
Heavy smoke. Personally, I wouldn't go there this weekend.

Ya man. That fire is going to be a problem. Multiple fire lines on all sides so it's going to grow fast.

I just stepped out of my office here in downtown Prescott. Smoke isn't bad here, although you can see it billowing just over the mountains.

Wonder if USFS is going to call in that super tanker plane that was at Williams Gateway a month ago.

They really need to just get the funds to buy that beast. What an incredible feat of engineering it is.

The temp guage will continue to do that. The resistor gets to hot to stay soldered. I replaced mine with a temp and direction rear view mirror.

Last I heard was that those tankers are so expensive to operate, they hesitate to call them in. Also, there is only a few of them in the US. I think the number is around 9. But I would have to go look.

Thanks. I know Shasta is expensive and they no longer have the amazing warranty they used to have.

My Mom just text me and said the wind is picking up today/tomorrow. Yesterday they had smoke over their house, today it's blowing towards Mayer. She drove into town just now and said she can see flames from hwy 69 between Mayer and Poland Junction (breezy pines).

This is from their house just now

Resistor gets too hot for solder? My electronic solder doesn't melt until 300 something degrees. I've heard of cheap solder but even then I'd guess it's 180 and up before it melts.

Edit: I don't know the cause of the issue but seems like a new resistor would be a fix.

So there is only 1 super tanker as the 1st never survived. But it will probably be flying around the southwest with all the fires picking up. It does however travel to whomever is willing to pay the highest fee as the USFS only contracts on a demand basis. It often flies to other countries for work.

The 747 Supertanker is an aerial firefighting aircraft based on a Boeing 747 widebody aircraft. Initially developed by Evergreen International Aviation, the first Supertanker was based on a 747-200 (N470EV, tanker/tail number 947), and never entered service. The second Supertanker (N479EV, tanker/tail number 979) was based on a 747-100originally manufactured by Boeing in 1971 for Delta Air Lines.[2] It entered service for the first time in 2009, fighting a fire in Cuenca, Spain, and made its first American operation on 31 August 2009 at the Oak Glen Fire.[3][4][5] On 31 December 2013, Evergreen International Airlines filled a Chapter 7 petition in federal bankruptcy court in Delaware, USA with all of the assets (including all 747 airframes) subsequently sold to a parts salvage re-seller, Jet Midwest Aviation.

As of August 2015, Global SuperTanker Services, LLC (the successor to the defunct Evergreen Supertanker Services), has since purchased all the physical assets and intellectual property related to Evergreen’s original Supertanker (except the 747-100 airframe itself) from Jet Midwest. They have transplanted the existing sprayer tank system from the 747-100 into a newer Boeing 747-400 (N744ST) airframe.[6][7][7][8]

The 747 Supertanker can carry up to 19,600 gallons (74,200 liters) of retardant or water for 4,000 miles (6,400 km), and is the largest aerial firefighting aircraft in the world.
