Hey guys, I'm considering this header even though it has a hefty price tag of $574 shipped. I'm in the middle of replacing my cracked manifold with a OEM mini-header but still considering the NWOR. I can't seem to find any recent info about good/bad of this header. LCE seems to be popular for ~$400 but it doesn't seem to have the gains of the NWOR. My priorities are mpg and low-mid torque. 95% of my time is spent under 3K rpm so the LCE would only be a gain when passing someone. Its important to me that the truck stays quiet. I also read about poor CS from 10 years ago and also reports of cracks.

    So, my questions are:

    1. are the gains real or hype(torque and mpg)?
    2. will adding a header only with stock exhaust/cat change the sound much? Deeper is ok, I don't want raspy ricer sound.... not even a little bit.
    3. any recent customer service chatter?

    The Bed is stock...ish

I bought the LCE long tube header for my 3rz many moons ago. I've had no problems with it at all. It's now on my 2rz (slight mods required). As far as "gains"... I'm not sure what they are advertising these days, but my guess is the butt Dyno won't feeling anything.

If I had to do it over again, I'd save my money and go with the Toyota mini header.

As far as sound, I already had a magna flow cat back exhaust. It sounded "ok", and once the header went on, it was not as deep and a little raspy.

I appreciate the response. I'll be installing the Toyota mini header tomorrow evening. I'll run it for a bit and decide to be content with it or upgrade to the NWOR.

Reports of 3-4 mpg increase and more effortless hill climbing with the NWOR tri Y header. I can't seem to find a lot of feedback on this. I guess the price has steered folks away. I also read about at least one cracked header about 10 years ago.

If the header will will gain me 3 mpg(a little hard to believe), gain me some torque for hill climbing, not increase exhaust sound level and last 10 plus years then I think it will be worth it to me.

Technically, making the intake and/or exhaust flow more easily, it'll get more MPG, that that's rarely the case in the real world.

My stupid noisy K&N "cold air" intake is technically more efficient, but all that efficiency is lost when you step on the loud pedal all the time.

I'm thinking about ordering the NWOR header. I figure I can clear $150 for the OEM mini header I just put on. $420 difference will gain me some low/mid power(where I normally use it) and some MPG's. I realize their CS is at the bottom of the barrel but the product seems to be top notch. Only downfall is the price. I plan on keeping this truck for quite a while and looking forward to seeing how many miles I can get on it.

Hey rybern I'm in the same boat as you. I can't seem to find the info on NWOR that'll help me with that decision? I've called them before and got rough CS just for asking for a price?! SMDH

That being said I'm still keeping them on my list. Which includes LCE, RR, and DT. Price is always a factor as will as gains yet CS could sway the final decision? The RR's are on sale (last I saw) but willing to spend for quality "higher end" product.

Have you checked out any other headers out there?

I researched for weeks on what header to buy. It kept taking me back to the NWOR. I dont know what the RR header is. But for me, the NWOR seems to provide the most noticeable torque gains down low. I bit the bullet and ordered the NWOR header last Thursday. Tom said they were low on stock (I figured it was a sales pitch). He said they only set up and make these once a year and that the 50 they made were nearly sold. Well, I called yesterday to get a tracking number for my header and my header shipped yesterday but they are now sold out.

Let me know what you end up going with man. I started a thread to share my NWOR experience if you want to see how things work out. It would be nice to have someone follow that thread that doesn't think I'm a complete moron. :)

    Interested as well.
Can we get a link on where to purchase?
I though NWOR were out of business years ago.?

Hey rybern I hope it goes well for you? I'll follow your thread to see how it goes with that new header of yours. I'd like to see that it does what they (NWOR) say it'll do? I'm running with an excab, E load rated tires and stock 3.58 gears! So some extra power would be nice until I can get new gears put in.

BTW the RR stands for Rock Ripper and Trail Gear makes them. They're at the bottom of my list of choices.

Oh and how was your CS experience with NWOR? Was it as bad as everyone is talking about? I'd hope it was good enough seeing that you bought from them?

3.58 gears? WOW. Sorry man, lol. Hopefully you have a 5 speed and at least you do have the 2.7 instead of the 2.4. :)

I looked at the Trail Gear header and I don't think it will gain me what I'm wanting. It appears to be a nice looking header I have no interest in spending extra money for something and not getting anything any better than the OEM header.

I called NWOR today to get a tracker and was able to get it. My header is on its way but won't get here until Jul 5th due to holiday and that FedEx system was down at NWOR. My exhaust pipe gasket is on its way from Amazon (90917-06061) Exhaust Pipe Gasket). So, hopefully one evening next week I'll bolt it up. I need to start soaking the cat bolts and upstream O2 bolts.
