Just bought a 2017 TRD sport. came with the OEM tonneau cover. but the cover feels loose and you can easily push it up and take a peek at the bed with a flashlight. Is there a repair or mod that can be done to tighten up the tonneau cover so less of a gap is present. any help will be truly appreciated.

The latches have two engage points. If you let down slowly on the the first latch will engage and the panel can be lifted slightly. Give it a firm push the engage second latch and it should fit much more snug (but not totally watertight). I just let mine drop so it always engages the second latch.

Push hard just above the latch and you'll hear a click.

Yep. Legit. It's called the "second click". Push down hard just forward of the rectangular raised stops that stick up.

    sometimes still doesn't engage.

For OP the raised portion on either side of the last fold, push down on those and you'll hear a second click.

I'm wondering is there any way to get better watertightness?
I've been getting a lot of water coming in lately, mind you its been storming a lot

All the cuts in the folding portions just won't allow for that great of a seal since they don't overlap.

Yup, that's where I'm talking about also. Mine leaks in front and at all the seams. The cuts in the seal ( where the folds are ) is where it leaks. It's not a continuous weather seal.

on the weekend when it was raining looked like it was coming in from on top of the rails though.

I had a leak at the front as well if you close the cover you can see where light comes in towards the front. I put some butyl tape over it and no more leaks up there. Now its just towads the middle

I used something less permanent at the front. Just used some leftover weatherstripping with sealant applied at the bottom. It gets compressed enough on its own. Toyota has a rubber seal available for this gap I believe. There was a thread on it somewhere....

Joe, this is where I leak along the rail at the folds and you can see the gaps in the cut seals too. Factory Tri-fold...

FWIW there's no "2nd click" on my 17' w/ the factory tonneau, I've tried every method on TW. I might disassemble one of those latches and see if there's a way to move the latch on the tonneau, the post or whatever on the bed side seems set in place.

Don't mess with the latches on the tonneau. Several have tried it, including myself. Based on the little movement, even when the second latch is engaged it would seem that you could remove the spacer to bring the entire latch mech closer to the tonneau for a tighter fit, but there is very little tolerance and it won't engage at all if you change it.

One thing that nobody has mentioned are the tie downs. Make sure they are not in the way of the hangy down parts of the tonneau. They can prevent the tonneau from fully latching.

Or you can break them like I did haha. I don't drop mine or slam it. I close it gently but did so on one of them in the winter and it cracked. Replaced now but still. This is a good point. Make sure you don't have any tie downs in the way
