Tire gate?

 

Nah. I'm running 37s on hutchinsons. Over 130lbs. Im sure the pelfrey gate can handle it, I just wouldn't want to try and hang such a heavy tire that high. I'm probably gonna fab some kind of tire swing down like poison spyder makes for jeeps. Easier to lift that weight up if it's hinged with some leverage. I've already talked to Tyler about it.

 

Mine don't weigh anywhere near 130lbs but just the size alone kept be away from mounting a full-size spare on the swing out

 

Yeah, the weight is one thing, it's the size that makes it so awkward to lift.

 

It also looks silly, excited to see what you come up with

 

The nice thing with a swing down gate is that it makes a nice ramp to get into the bed when it's open

I think this guy said it was actually a poison spyder gate for a jeep that he modified to fit.

 

What drove the switch from tube swing out to square steel?

 

There used to be a video on the first few pages (not sure if it's still there) that shows how much more deflection the tube gate has compared to the square tube. Especially with bigger tires and full aux gas tanks. The pelfreys will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that's why.

 

I've probably exceeded the recommend weight of the swing out. But it still closes and latches effortlessly.. Cheers to @Pelfreybilt for a product that stands up to the test of time, and abuse

 

So exited! this Tuesday marks the 14th week since ordering my new rear, should be getting a shipment notification any day now!

Yes they can!

 

We are working on a latch system for the dual swing out rears that will be eventually offered on every platform we make a rear for. Every aftermarket latch we tried was junk! So once we get our own system built we will start with designing the gates and attachment point for the 3rd gen rear bumpers.

 

Any ETA on when that 3rd gen high clearance dual swingout will be available?

 

We dont have anything solid yet but once we have our latch system figured out we will definitely have something more solid!

 

what an estimated ETA on a dual swingout 2nd HC rear?

 

We are unsure as we have to finish the T4R, 3rd Gen, 1st Gen and FJ rears with gates first.
