I have a dash cam and a bumper mounted LED that I've tapped into the TAIL fuse. What I've found is that for the LED this is perfect as the lights have to be on for the LED to work. But I thought that running lights on would power dash cam, but it doesn't. During day with lights to AUTO the dash cam isn't powered unless the headlights come on. Of course I can just turn on lights manually and dash cam running.

Does anyone have a list of recommended fuses to tap and scenarios where that fuse is powered and would be useful?

Does anyone know what are the parameters for power to P/Outlet 1 and P/Outlet 2 fuses?

Do you have autodimming mirror? Tap into that. Otherwise tap into #5 down on the right.

P.Outlet #1 and #2 are your two cig lighter plugs. Pretty safe to use either for switched power.

The empty fuse slot is constant-on +12VDC. I used this plus P.Outlet#2 for my dash cam.

I also got the VioVation Opia 2 cam with battery discharge prevention pack. Do i need a special hard wiring kit?

I'm having a shop do the install.

I want the camera to be on 24/7 - 365 - weather the truck is on/off, parked, moving, anything.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Steven

You may want to hard wire that directly to the battery with a fuse link, or tap into the factory alarm. Not sure which fuse it would be. A 24/7 thing I would consider a second battery and fuse box set up.

@JaCado Why do you suggest a separate direct to battery hardwire when there's already constant power easily available at the in-cab fuse panel?

@Sk323i Depending on the camera's consumption and how long you're leaving it parked you may want to consider a separate battery as suggested. Several good choices at Blackboxmycar and they can advise you on which will work well for your application.

As for whether you need a special hardwiring kit, that's really dependent on the details of the camera and whichever battery-discharge-prevention-pack you chose to use. If they came with a hardwiring kit then that should probably work. If they came with a cigarette lighter plug in kit then you probably need whatever hardwire kit is made for them.

How did this end up going? Also do you just leave the fuse cover when you use a fuse tap?

This is the rear view mirror harness.... Can I steal ground and power from this for my dash cam? Runs 5v (red power, black ground) to a mini-usb connector with an inline fuse

That's what I was wondering if you could do! That's the idea I had when looking for a wire to tap. Any idea what the rearview mirror is pulling for power? And which of the three wires do what? One must be a sensor signal for the auto dimming while the other two are power and ground... Although I have no clue which wire does what

Yeah it's for autodimming and compass. I tapped the blue and tan for power and ground..check out this thread
