I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD 4*4 off road . I have 42,000 Miles on my truck . On my last service at the local dealership they told me that Toyota recommends every 30,000 miles to do a fuel injector cleaning. I haven't done it yet . I'm going Saturday to get oil change and tires rotated and wanna know if I should do the cleaning while I'm there. Most people I've talked to about it say just go and buy Lucas lubricant fuel injector additive that it's just as good and the dealership is just trying to make more money. I'm new to all this so any opinion or advice is appreciated .

That is just how they make easy money. You do not need injector cleaning. They will charge you $65 and dump a $5 can of fuel injector cleaner. Please do not waste your time with this.

Ok thanks for your advice! Since they told me it's gonna cost $155.00 and they say Toyota recommends it I was scared it's a serious service to have done and I needed to do it. But since I started asking friends and mechanics about it they said gonto wal mart and buy a additive.

I'm glad you asked and admitted that you are new and want to learn. this place is great for real time knowledge.

The dealerships take advantage of the fact many people don't want learn about their cars and just let the dealerships suggest anything and the customers just do it.

On the other side of the coin, dealerships do need to make extra money. Just selling cars does not support the cost of having a repair facility. They need to do other things to make a profit.

I'm not anti-dealership, but I do support doing anything yourself can.

I like to think that us Toyota owners are money smart, you just asking about this service proves that I'm right.

    Many !
Use Chevron Techron additive Complete Fuel System Cleaner every 30,000 miles to a tank full of any Top Tier Gas! Can even wait and do every 50,000 miles if you mostly use any top tier gas most of the time! Stealerships are forced to upsell to make most profit for cheap fixes, wether needed or not! Usualy all Bull Sht !

Is lucas additives worth trying? That's what all my friends tell me to get. I was told about sea foam too but I'm not sure about that stuff. This is the first truck I've bought and am paying for so I wanna take care of it and make sure I'm putting good lubricants and additives in it.

I'm the last one to endorse any fuel additive.

Every previous Toyota I owned lasted past the 300K mark. None we experiencing fuel delivery issues.

You have a fuel filter (actually 2). With that and the decent gas we have in the states, the likelihood of needing a gas additive to clean injectors is unlikely. It won't hurt, but it mostly won't make a difference.

Look at the big picture. Toyota's are sold all over the world, many in 3rd world nations, where top tier fuel is unavailable. The cars still run fine.

I also prefer Chevron Techron additive Complete Fuel System Cleaner. I know its what Hyundai relabels and sells as their own and its also what I have been using for a few years now. I recommend using it on the tank of fuel right before you need an oil change just to make sure you dont get any foreign chemicals in your fresh oil.

Fuel injector cleaning and changing your blinker fluid can be done at the dealership.

I can say I have had a car with dirty injectors and you definitely notice a differene. Now this was a 90 corvette, amazingly fun and poor quality.
The off the shelf cleaners will not do ANYTHING.

I will say, with the fuel system on new cars. You don't need it every 30k.

I used a special napa product that was in a pressurized can. You had to connect it to the shrader(spelling) valve and disconnect the fuel pump relay.
Huge difference on cold start up and pinging. Also cleaned the cat as it passed smog and had cleaner readings than the previous year.

30K. Didn't the dealer tell you needed MAF cleaning? Another $5 dollar spray can service.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments in this thread. I'm sitting here at the Toyota Dealership getting the 50k oil change/tire rotation for my 2016 Taco. Service rep comes in and says they recommend cleaning the throttle body and injectors every 40K. I asked him how much, he says $229.00. I say no thanks.
