I have an iPhone so we use OBD Fusion, but I think the Andriod equivalent (which some say is even better) is an app called Torque

Torque is the best app. It won't change settings like Carista and it won't measure trans temp like a scan gauge, but it does everything else

2016 TRD Sport, purchased in October 2015, I thought my truck was fine but I changed the sensor anyway. Ordered from Mcgeorgetoyota, took longer to remove the wheel than to replace it.

I’m floored with the end result, had I know this I would’ve done it much earlier. Remember I wasn’t expecting anything to change, but the truck actually feels like a new vehicle should. Prior the truck engine felt rough, I thought it was the truck feeling.

Thank you all, this alone makes visiting this forum worthwhile,

I expect we'll see more reports like this as more do this repair. I'm nearly convinced that the common and "normal" chugging many experience and blame on the tranny could actually be caused by this. I just worry about the damage driving mine like this for 12,000 miles did to the truck long-term - hopefully nothing too bad, but at times my truck literally felt like it was about to blow up on me - though it never did or leave me stranded thankfully.

But you put it best - after replacing my CPS, it was like I hit the holy grail of newness I should have been feeling from my new toy...

I bought mine at the same time. I'm not on the recall list.
    Just ordered one...

Thanks. Seems like all the apps on android are crammed full of ads (I get people need to make money). Poorly designed. Or just plainly don't work.

Torque Lite has a really weird user interface, and I can't email or even view my trip logs. I am tempted to purchase the full version, but If the lite version barely functions as advertised.

I got my CPS, but I want to collect more data before the install..

I use torque for on demand data. I don't care about logging anything.

The CPS failed on my 2016 (bought in November of 2015) 700 miles away from home while driving to SC for a wedding. Luckily we were close enough to a dealer and were able to be towed. The mechanic at Toyota insisted it was bad gas and wanted us to take the truck and leave, get additive and go on our merry way. Friday night at 8:00 pm, guess he wanted to go home. Thankfully we didn't take his misguided advice and left the truck where they discovered the problem and repaired it under warranty the following day. This should have been a recall!!!

I was the same, but for me its been really helpful to log and chart trends in the data. Things change so rapidly from moment to moment in the realtime data for fuel trims, O2, MAF, pressure readings, etc., that while you will be able to spot something on-demand that's in BAD shape pretty quickly most things are more subtle in nature and can only be spotted with trends over multiple trips.

That said, if I ever had the time I'd probably open a start-up app company that you just pump all your PIDs through into a CSV file like Torque or Fusion will create and get your pick of the litter of dashboards and problem areas that easily pull the related sensor data together in a way thats meaningful. Most of these things won't throw CODES until something is already damaged when, in fact, the data being logged can spot a trend long before your trusted dealer plugs in tech stream and says "no codes" "normal" "functions as designed"

That said, now that my truck's running pretty well I'll probably lay off the logs for awhile once I have a good data set that represents "what my truck did when it ran well" to compare against should I encounter problems later on.

I finally got the logging to work. Now it's a matter of organizing the data into something that can be meaningfully mined. I am not a gear head, and I only know the basics. If I am approaching this the wrong way, please let me know.

My factory dash seems to show lower mileage than the Torque app. For example, this trip I averaged 13mpg per Torque app but 11mpg per the factory dash.

    MPG.jpg

Also, I filtered the data for engine loads that were over 20%, and I found that my average fuel economy (average of MPG/instant) was 6.8 mpgs? People are towing 2000lbs and getting 15+MPGs on this website?

    engine load (20).jpg

Engine loads under 20% had an average of 21.7mpgs. (average RPM was 1391rpm and peak rpm was 3963 under in this engine load range). I don't see how people are hypermile'n and getting 25+ mpgs.

Some graphs if they even make sense. Engine Load.jpg

I don't know what any of that is. My average, over every mile I've done, is just over 20 as you can see in my fuelly signature.

Torque shows my top speed on this trip was 45mph when it was actually 65mph. Is this data reliable? It's also showing 60mpg under low loads at Highway speeds. I guess the only thing that matters for my purpose is consistency rather than accuracy.
    Trip graph.jpg

Average current MPG was 13.8mpg for this trip per Torque.

That's odd. I can't speak to the Torque app, but I see consistent numbers between my OBD Fusion (iOS) and the speedometer. One thing I have noticed is that some of the SAE/calculated PIDs are off in general vs. the Toyota-specific ones OBD offers in the "tacoma pack" for $10. Could be a difference in how it's pulling in the data generically vs. from the specific PIDs for the specific truck? Just a random theory though.

Sounds like I need to spend hours on different forums trying figure out to fix or address what is going wrong. I rather just buy an Iphone. There are so many broken apps on android. It's pretty frustrating.

Update: After my crank position sensor failed in Aug 2016 leaving me stranded and my catalytic converter was replaced, my truck never seemed to run right. I took it in several times to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. A couple months ago the lurching and misfiring became more frequent. The check engine light came on and the catalytic converter was identified as the problem. They said it was a "bad sensor." I suspected the crank position sensor was still the issue but they didn't think that was the case. After another road trip getting less than 12 MPG the check engine light came back on. I dropped it off at the dealership and told them not to call until it is actually fixed. After consulting the national repair people and running more tests, it was determined the CPS is bad again and once again ruined the catalytic converter. I'm hoping to get it fixed early to mid week next week. My question is could there be more damage to the engine? My truck now has 20k miles and it has been misfiring for at least a year!

I hope not... mine never got so severe as yours did and I'm still worried the misfiring, fuel rich mess it was running for the first 10k has hindered the long term reliability for which I bought this truck.

    Hey guys,
Although my truck DID fall within the recall build dates (FEB 2016) it was NOT on the recall list.( I confirmed from a member on here as well as my local dealership) via VIN#.
I have not had any issues, but I'd rather not take a chance. So I swapped mine today. Here is what I found:
    OLD VS NEW.
    Overall dimensions are identical
    [IMG]

    Stamped number has changed;

Hash mark IS on the new one. Not on my stock sensor
    [IMG]

We will see how it drives and if affects MPG or not. I mainly did it as a safety pre-caution just in case I'm in the middle of nowhere and if it decided to go out. Cheap insurance.

^^ Thanks for the pics. Is there any indication of anti-corrosion coating contaminating (or just sticking to) the old sensor? Mine is going in for the recal this week ... I'll try to remember to ask the dealer to save the old part.

My Original sensor was fairly clean. There was 1 spot that had some dark grey goo stuff on it.

I live out in the middle of nowhere too, been seriously considering changing mine out as cheap insurance also.
