My feelings exactly. It is a two bedroom, since we have a six year old tagging along. I'll send you a PM when I get down there to get the lowdown! Thanks Steve!

    @dually

if you found something for considerably less would you consider a 12 month lease?

I haven't really thought about it since I am ready to purchase, just apprehensive on an impulse buy of a house. I would like to take some time to look at what is available. We want to settle quickly and provide a stable environment for my fiance's 6 year old son, not to mention a familiar school and routine. I just have to remain in the mindset that it is just money.

I'm not much of a wheeling guy, but if any of you ride mountain bikes/road/gravel, I'd love to get out and see some of the trails the area has to offer.

Once you get settled, take a long weekend and throw your bike in the truck and drive to Fruita

Personally, if you're just thinking short term, I'd look at Pueblo. The rent is much cheaper, and you'd be more likely to find something month to month.

It's not glamorous by any means, and theres a little more crime (in some areas), plus a 30-45min commute to Springs, but if you're only there for a few months it's bearable. I've lived here for 10 years and managed ok, just had a few things stolen here and there, nothing I couldn't replace =P

We looked at that option too, but changing schools a month in would be too big of a hassle and perhaps a little draining on the 1st grader.

That would complicate things a bit. Will they not let you enroll him in a Springs school if your physical a dress is in Pueblo?

They claim open enrollment is a thing in Springs, however we would have had to submit the documents in February.

I suppose the newest schools are in D20? I'm glad we're in. Looks to be Mountain View elementary will be the school he reports to. A couple mile bike ride from the apartment will have me chasing him down singletrack in no time.

Welcome to CO. Some posters said to contact a realtor. I agree. They can chelp you find a place. Are you planning on buying a house? Is that the reason for short term lease? I just moved back to the Springs after a long career in the service. In a matter of hours, I am about to close in my house in the Briargate area. Good area. Pm me if you want to meet since you are new to the area.

Just for kicks, this was my rig pulling my toys and some other stuff...

Going over 11k feet of elevation sure gave my trk a work out

Yah for the most part. My daughter's school (Chinook Trail) is 10 years old and we just recently passed a bond to build a middle school right next to her elementary school. Which is awesome cause her school(s) will be in our neighborhood (walking distance) until high school.

I've been in contact with Elizabeth Palmer from Coldwell (she was a referenced realtor through USAA) and am receiving daily updates on properties in my search area. We will be looking to finalize a purchase in October. At the rental prices we've been seeing, we didn't want to be stuck in a 12 month lease. Rather pay a little bit more, and get into a home of our own sooner. We will be in Briargate as well, at the Sagebrook apartments.

Agree but I am not a good mtb type. You guys probably kick my ass on the trail. I am not into technical stuff. Currently acclimating myself since I came from sea level.

My wife and I would have pulled the trigger on a house as well when we moved but we wanted to get a lay out of the land. 6 months in we still felt was too short of time for us to make that decision, so we extended the lease. Plus, our rent was dirt cheap so might as well keep putting it towards building our down payment.

I was just getting at that there are houses and town homes available for rent all over the city that are considerably less than what you're going to end up paying for a mediocre managed human kennel. The only thing is, is that most if not all are 12 month rentals. Money is just money, but in terms of spending a lot vs a little, I rather spend the smaller amount if it's going towards something I'll never see profit in.

Regardless, everyone copes differently and whatever you guys do I'm sure will be the right thing! Hell, it's bringing you here no matter what haha. I hope your move here is elementary!
