I drive a 09 TRD double cab 4x4 and I hit a large doe on California's Monitor Pass while going around 50 mph. My Tacoma ended up with a crack in the front bumper skin and several of the tabs on the right headlight were broken, no other damage. Farmer's insurance paid out about 1100.00 if I remember correctly and originally I was going to install an ARB bumper but instead I replaced the bumper skin with a used one and replaced the broken headlight with a factory Toyota part.
I added Deer whistles for good measure.
Your Tacoma ended up with considerably more damage but the deer I hit was more centered so maybe that was why I had light damage.

Just adding to all the good info already posted. Don't just accept a check from the insurance company and then go looking for a body shop. Pick your body shop and then let them deal with the insurance company. As others mentioned, there is likely hidden damage that won't be visible until teardown. The body shop will let the insurance company know and get the additional repairs approved.

It will probably work out that you pay your comprehensive deductible to the body shop when your truck is all fixed.

Whether or not you get a rental car, depends on if you have rental car coverage on your policy.

Glad you weren't hurt. There have been times where the deer went through the windshield.

Leave the deer hair on the truck as proof. I had a deer jump in front of me and years later when I changed insurance, it showed it was a no-fault accident, not that I decided to run into something. The adjuster took pictures of the deer hair stuck on the hood.

Thank you all for the replies. This is precisely the route I have gone. Adjuster looked at it today and quoted 9k in parts/labor. The shop is estimated to finish the job in 3-4 weeks. Both the shop and insurance company said they will call weekly to update or as needed.

The process has been incredibly simple and straight forward to this point.

    Cheers
