Headed to Avon next weekend and want to drive on the beach and do a little fishing. Will my factory mudflaps be a problem? Should I go ahead and take them off? Thoughts greatly appreciated. Never driven on the beach before, also have the factory dunlops.....

Backing up in ruts they might get caught and torn off, going forward they might get bent backwards. I'd take em off.

    Also good luck..

Will driving out there make my frame start to rust? Don't want that to happen. Might be best to keep her a street queen.

One or 2 drives won't. Continued driving on the beach/in the water without washing it will. Just run it through an auto carwash with under body wash on the way home and you'll be fine.

Thanks should be a lot of fun. Next I need to figure out how to go about fishing down there.

Car wash in Buxton has an underbody wash rack. I have never had a problem with mud flaps on the beach, but I drive carefully. Air down to 20psi and you'll be fine. Drive in the ruts and turn real wide.

Reading reports its been slow fishing. Two-hook rigs with shrimp or sand fleas for pomps and sea mullet right in the wash. If you have a larger set-up, some cobia have been caught from the beach, but probably do better on the pier.

guaranteed the beach will rot your truck,
i found a big fresh water puddle and kept driving through for the basic wash but you gotta hose it out.

I drive on Corolla beach often. When I get off the beach, I air back up and head to the car wash (mile marker 6). I wouldn't go through an automated wash, I don't think that the undercarriage wash does much (IMO). I spend about $10 and get on my hands and knees and wash the underside really well with a manual pressure washer. I also open the hood and wash the underside of that (without pressure). I love driving on the beach. So much easier to set up for the day without lugging everything out to the shore by hand.

I have a place in Avon and drive on the beach a couple times a week all fall and winter. I cut my mud flaps down front and back right below the 4x4 logo and i wash the underside with a garden hose once a week, seven years with this truck and no rust yet ,I always air my tires down to 20lb and have never had a problem even in the loosest sand . you will love Avon .

Even if you use an auto wash on the underside, when you get home throw a sprinkler on the garden hose and put it under the truck, leave it for a while and move it as needed to get the whole area once again. You'll still probably find some fine sand on your driveway when you're done.

I hope you have a great time!!!! I never had a truck or a 4x4 and I must say that I love it! There isn't much better than to drive right on the beach and set up. I can't wait to use it in snow, even if I have to go back to VA where I used to live to drive in it.
