I took my Vernier caliper down to Carl's Machine Shop in Corona to see why I couldn't convert the reading into inches. Turns out it's already in inches. It just fooled me because the inches are divided into 10ths, not into halves, quarters, etc.. Anyway, Carl showed me a cool caliper from Harbor Freight that he uses. It's got a little calculator in top and you just push a button for a deadly accurate reading or conversion in either mm or inches. He says it costs around $20.00 and they have a 20% coupon out for 4th of July. I'm going to be there this morning and get one for myself and two for gifts. This seems like a great thing considering some parts come in inches and some come in mm along with me being mathematically challenged.

I have two digital calipers from Harbor Freight. They work great, but if you only use it occasionally, take the battery out between uses because it will drain the battery even when it's off.
