Picked up some focal 165 a few months back and finally getting around to installing them. I upgraded my head unit but left the wires stock (i.e no amp).

I'm am wondering with the crossovers and new tweeters how to I connect them into the factory harness? I got adapters from crutchfield but was not sure if I go off the speaker or the tweeter. I keep reading conflicting things as I google.

Trying to do a clean setup. The adapters are Metra 71-035LC, they came with the speakers from crutchfield.

So you got a pair of separates? I don't know this for fact but my guess it the factory crossover is nothing more than a cap on the tweet and letting the woofer roll off on it's own. Anything else would complicate the install as you would need to either use the factory crossover or make your connections before it. As for where to hook the harness, I would go with the woofer connection but I have no strong reason for saying that other than the potential for thicker wiring.

I did get a pair of separates. It has new speaker, tweeter, and crossover. I was thinking with the Metra adapter I would go off the speaker to the crossover. Then from crossover new speaker and tweeter.

These are the adapters https://www.crutchfield.com/p_12071...a&awnw=g&awcr=47718730105&awdv=c&awug=9060252. I am just unsure if the connector is from the speaker. I was hoping someone could verify before I yank the door off.

Yeah, I looked them up, that's for sure how you would want to do it unless somebody chimes in to say there's a crossover going to the door woofer what you're saying would be the way to do it.

I installed them yesterday I ran the metra connectors off the speaker. The catch was I had to cut the tweeter wires at the tweeter. 2 wires are bridges at the tweeter that go back to the speaker.

It sounds good! Now I'm debating installing a amp for the speakers.
