3rd Gen BHLM and light mods

It really was difficult to remove. Nerve racking too.

Nerve racking for sure, i almost said fuck this but i damaged the seal and said there was no going back now.

 

It will all be worth it we promise. Don't be stingy on the butyl tape.

 

Yeah, just wish that I had enough to retrofit RX 350 projectors, but I just spent almost $4,000 on ARB front and rear lockers. So I'll just be putting some HIDs in Halogen projectors and aiming them down a little.

 

Just blacking em' out looks 1,000,000 times better. I didn't bother and it's the sickest looking truck in town.

 

I would scuff it lightly. Use a green doobie pad.

Tackled the bhlm... Just want my truck back from getting lockers installed, but installer is having issues causing delays.... Cant wait to install these bad ass headlights.

Love the bhlm and smoked side markers, well worth the stress and pain.

For those who did the bhlm, what tools did you use to help get the headlights to pry open? Also, what is the best side of the headlight to start at? What is the best method to go with as far as temp and timing?

@LEXICON did you use the night-shades on the high beam reflector buckets? or just the side marker? If so have you had any issues with reflectors getting too hot and melting? Someone also told me the highs won't reflect if tinted. Just getting opinions on whether or not to tint the highs.

 

Only tool you need is an oven. Heat em up. You're gonna get 1000 answers on time and temp. Around 300'ish for 10'ish minutes is good. But you need to get a feel for them. Obviously too high and long is bad, but to short and low temp will do no good. Being able to grab the light and feel it move is crucial. When it stops giving then back in the oven if they aren't apart yet. Start on the non-turn signal side (the fat side). Pull like hell. It isn't easy.

 

So when you say I should be able to grab the light and move it, you're talking about the lens and the backing (black plastic)? Should I be able to like move them in opposite direction and feel it shift a little?

 

Reflectors, high beam and signal buckets. Kills the light some but I'm more form than function.
Tool wise the best I found was a couple different size flat head screw drivers, also a an expanding plier.

 

Kind of. If you take your headlight off now and with no heat, attempt to pull it apart...it'll never budge. If you heat it up you can pull in opposite directions and it will begin to peel apart with enough pressure. When it cools it will no longer do this. You'll break it.

I've pulled apart over 20 sets of these with just my hands.

 

Nothings gonna move but a 1/2" or so at a time as you work the flat head along and break the seal.

 

I respectfully disagree with this. Once the seal is broken and put it back in the oven...the entire light will peel apart in one constant pull. There are obviously many people that have done this and many ways to do it...none of which are incorrect.
