2005 Tacoma SR5 Double Cab 4x4 Desert Sand
Hello - new here and looking for some advice mainly concerning suspension and wheels. I have a 2005 SR5 double cab 4x4 all factory original. This has been the best truck I have ever owned and now has 180k miles with the only repair being front wheel bearings. However, my truck is looking a little tired particularly after 5 years in snow country which I have now moved away from. Quick summary of cosmetics I am looking to do - replace flares with matte black as clear coat pealing off originals, new matte black wheels as factory wheels are corroded badly (salt), black rear bumper since someone dented it, side bars and install a digital radio.

Concerning the suspension and wheels, I am looking to level the truck which measures 34" F and 35 1/2" R. I will probably buy Bushwacker flares so maybe some offset or wider wheels may be in order. However I don't intend to go over a 17" wheel as I prefer the sidewall for ride. The truck is used for city and long road driving and the only off road is the deer hunting club so I am not looking for off road performance in the ride.

I have read a lot of articles on coil overs, spacers and Bilstein 5100s and currently have ruled spacers out to level the truck. I am concerned about a harsh ride from the Bilsteins but they seem to be a good option with lots of positive comments. So my desire is a good ride with a better stance and level look with no off road requirements. My reading has lead me to 5100's F&R, 5100's with front springs, or some type of OME/Toytec or similar kit. I just am not looking for 3" of lift. Probably will go with alloy wheels 16x8 or 17x8.5 for a little wider profile with the new flares. The front end has been checked by my mechanic and is tight but original.

    Comments?
    thanks
    Dave
