Had the truck for about 3 weeks and I finally got annoyed enough to dig harder online to solve my problem with the fact that everything would work between my Pixel except for messaging.

This gentleman here explained the fix for me:

Notes: I had been using Google Hangouts as opposed to the default messaging application.
