Just wrote a lengthy email to: infocent@parks.wa.gov to explain the stupidity and lack of definition behind their current set of rules/policies. If anyone feels inclined, feel free to join in on the parade.

We thought of so many things we should have said to this walking rule book of a ranger. Next time I will say it's my storage spot to keep my shit dry, or maybe it's the only way I can get shade.

We were there from the 30th-2nd. Lot 50 whew were in. Yes the RTT is considered a RV. I had my setup in front while the truck/boat/trailer was in the back of me. Caught 55 on Saturday and 80something on Sunday. Some jackass stole 5 of out pots and left 2 with empty pots. We know someone checked it because all the chicken was gone

When I lived in San Diego, CA. I got stung by one of those effers in the heel of my foot. Felt like stepping on a needle and instant burning.
I was walking out into the garage to get a water from the refrigerator we had outside.
I called the ER and they said "you should be ok, but if you see a red line from the sting site going up your leg, get to the ER immediately!"
I cleaned out the sting site with hydrogen peroxide.
Then for the next three hours, I couldn't feel my foot, ankle and 1/2 up my calf.

This was the same house that had black widows in the garage and rattlers in the front yard.
Somewhere around here, I have a video of me chopping the head off a baby rattler and then touching the tail.
With the head completely separated, the nerve endings were still alive and it would wrap around to attack my touch.

Yeah, within 2 weeks of my sting, I was driving thru the neighborhood and I saw three kids with a rake taking swings at something on the ground.
I slow up and see a full size rattler, strike up about three feet to the rake!
About 2 minutes later, a sheriff with lights on was racing up that same road...
Never found out if the rake won or if Darwin won...

I didn't realize we had scorpions on the east side....I knew there were rattlers over there but wasn't aware we had scorpions native to WA. Very cool!

Was it an RV spot, or tent spot?

I could be wrong, but I don't think a tent on top of a vehicles makes it an RV. I thought that was a registration thing. Putting a cargo box on top doesn't make it a box truck.

We've camped in many, many tent spots with 2-3 roof top tents. Only a couple times in an RV spot, but there was never an RV present.

The only issue we've ever had was when I parked off of the parking pad at Deception Pass. A Ranger, I think I recall him/her being a dick about it, but I could be wrong as I don't even remember if it was a him or her, told us we both had to be parked on the parking pad so I had to move. We've had to buy multiple spots on a few occasions, but that was more of a space thing (multiple RTTs).

I think the issue they have poorly thought of is, lets say you have a camper in the bed of a truck, can you have multiples of those parked in one camping spot if the spot has room for them? It sounds like the rules require those to each have their own spot (understandable), and they have poorly defined the line between a pop up camper/standard camper and a roof top tent. I understand they want to have some consistency and don't want an over packed/over flowing camp spot, but they need to define and draw out the lines a little better. I'm also only basing this on the word of one ranger which could be the problem, but I'd like to have as much knowledge on this as possible before I get myself a ticket for ignoring their rules.

It really comes down to vaguely worded ruling and Rangers who get to enforce it how they see it. The actual rule reads

So the issue is more what is considered "built-in sleeping accommodations". That sort of wording would mean even having a bed platform in the back of our trucks would make it count as a recreational vehicle and if there was an RV too, you'd need a second spot.

Ive personally never had any issues with rangers and it being me and an RV or two or more RTT's but there is always one out there who will.

Or campground hosts...only time ive had an issue was with one of them. In Oregon after driving 15 hours. Pull in at 9pm, all the tent sites are full but there are 3-4 "rv" spots. So i pop my tent up in one and go pay with a check (which their sign said was ok). Hop in the tent and am reading. 30 minutes later the host comes up and tells me 1) they dont take checks and 2) I cant have my tent there as its an RV spot. I tell him there are no tent sites left to which he says i can came in some random field and still pay. I offer to just pay for the rv spot (im tired at this point) and he says nope, I cant do that. So after a bit of back and forth I tell him Ill move. In the middle of all that I tell him I have no cash so I wont be paying till the morning when I can go get some. Guy had a big hissy fit over that so I told him to just call the cops then as Im moving my tent. Luckily after all that his wife came out 10 minutes later and apologized for her asshole of a husband. Told me no problem paying tomorrow morning and sorry for having to have moved when it was clearly a site that wasnt going to be used by an RV. No clue where Im going but hey, even park hosts can be dicks too!

Hate those fucking things. Had one drop from a wood pile into my work glove. Only about 5x the size of a worker ant, but damn it hurt.
