Recently bought a 2000 ext cab sr5 tacoma. First job that I will try and tackle is the timing belt. Got the kit and tools for the job, but any tips or advice or particular good walkthroughs are welcome.

    Rust
I did mine a couple months ago. My truck is a New England truck, so lots of nuts and bolts were frozen. Spray everything with penetrant.
Now would be a good time to flush the cooling system; I had green coolant in there so I flushed it out a few times with distilled water and put Toyota Red in once I had everything put back together.
Getting the Harmonic Balancer off was a PITA for me; mine was pretty rusty. I bought the SP 64400 to hold it in place, but since it was so rusty, it was difficult getting the tool in place and then removing it from the actual Harmonic Balancer. That bolt is held on with a lot of torque. Make sure you get a new one from the dealership.
Make sure you have a 10mm allen socket; you need that to remove the tensioner roller.
Make sure to scrape off any old gasket material for things like the water pump if you're replacing that.
All of the torque specs for putting everything back together are in the factory service manual (link can be found on this forum).

    I used this walkthrough: http://www.skjos.net/toyota/timing/timing.html
I'd say read through it once or twice before you go ahead and do it just so you're sure you have everything you need.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

    Truck looks good:thumbsup:

Spend some quality research time on this forum. Trust me, everything about everything you need or want to know is here.

Only suggestion I can think of that no-one ever mentions: if you plan on off-roading, and have the elocker (check for RR Diff Lock button on dash) ENGAGE IT! I cannot stress this enough. Routinely cycle it on/off. This will keep the output shaft of the actuator motor clear of debris, and you will be able to engage it when you really need it, rather that having to use your winch (ask me how I know).
