You might just about break even then, assuming you don't make any less then you do now. I think tags are going to be a terrible shock for ya though. Check into it. When I bought my Honda new up there, the tag was over $300 a year for a $13k vehicle (goes by the value of the vehicle). I would imagine that a $20k+ vehicle would probably be $400+ a year.

Haha, well it has been 17 years since I lived there, but I don't imagine it's changed much, especially for the cheaper. It just not the way govt works normally. I'm thinking the info you posted up there is just the basic fees they charge before they nail you with the one based on the value of the vehicle (I think it's called Ad Valorem, IIRC).

Definitely confirm with your family or a Georgia TW member, because $20 a year is ridiculously cheap, even for Florida, so I doubt that's the whole story.

 

Don't get me wrong though, I liked GA. After 2 years up there I was ready to stay...but then I got hit having to pay State income tax, I guess because I worked a lot of overtime that year and the withholding wasn't enough to cover it. It really chaffed my ass so I was more than ready to return to FL by the time my transfer came through.

I just want you to be prepared for the cost of the privilege of living there, haha.

Rgr, but I have a feeling they'll be getting their money somehow. The roads don't pay for themselves and one of the reasons the roads were so good in GA was because of that ridiculous Ad Velorem paying for them.
