Let's see if we can compile an ongoing list of what's open and what's not. Conditions change rapidly at times and it's nice to have a real time update if possible about what's open for the season and what's closed.
Discussion of trail closures and repairs are welcome here.

Bush ducks is an excellent resource for road status:

    http://bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm

Past data is also good for judging when you might be able to make it over a pass, etc.

I've found the FS sites to be unreliable, but a call into the local FS office can often be helpful.

Information on the new Seasonal Closures in the Pike - San Isabel National Forests
The official order creating the closures, a direct link to the pdf which happens to include a list of roads (by number) and better yet, maps of the affected portions. As far as I know, this is the ONLY place this mapping is available, because the currently published MVUMs for the forest have not yet been updated to reflect the change.
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd523524.pdf

@Gramps also made a post in the thread where the topic first came up, reposting a spreadsheet that was posted on Facebook which provides a translation between the FR numbers and actual names (like 'Slaughterhouse' or 'Poacher's Loop'. You can find that post with the attached spreadsheet at

While not technically a closure per se, we also have a thread on the requirement for all vehicles, even those plated and not registered as OHVs, to have an OHV use sticker to travel on certain trails in Colorado. These are being referred to as 'full-size trails', as the primary thing that identifies them is they are a trail and not a road, and are open to vehicles > 50" in width. More info in the OHV sticker thread at

    @Star-Lord

I figured this would be a good spot for this info since it pertains to keeping these trails from closing.

I met with the founders of Colorado Off Road Enterprise yesterday and they are doing a TON for maintaining the motorized travel in the Pike San Isabel National Forests. They are the missing link trying to get everyone to work together; the government along with all of the different usage groups to get together, play nice and keep everything open for everyone. They have just adopted 10 trails in the Buena Vista area and are working closely with the forest service to organize projects and cleanups to keep trails from being closed.

Like them on FB or check out their website
    https://www.keeptrailsopen.org/

They are also working with the businesses of BV to put together a list of companies you should support when in the area that are actively helping make trails better for all. I could see them expanding to all major areas of the state... which is one of the reasons that they kept their name somewhat basic, for future expansion.

well this sucks....guess I missed this when it happened...

    http://bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm#twincone

Twin Cone Pike, South Platte 719-836-2031 Partially Open 6/12/17
    COMMENTS:
6/12/17 - Forest Service Road 126 is permanently closed from milepost 5.13 to milepost 7.37 per forest special order PSICC-2016-01 dated Feb. 8, 2016. This closure is before the first obstacle, basically where the road turned into a 4 wheel drive only trail, well before the hill climb. According to the order, the lower part of the road remains open, but you cannot drive all the way to the top of North Twin Cone, except by snowmobile (when there is at least 6" of snow). This trail was closed as part of a lawsuit settlement with environmental groups that claimed vehicular traffic was stressing the wildlife in the area.

I guess this was overlooked when talking about the seasonal closures. Apparently seasonal and 'permanent' closures were done by separate order. Someone ought to cross reference the roads in that order with the list Gramps posted above and see if there are any other surprises hiding names behind numbers.

New at this so forgive me if I'm posting this is the wrong area.
Went up to Stillwater Pass in Arapahoe/Pawnee area. All clear and good to go if you just stay on the main pass road.
The off spurs are too small for the Taco unless you're brave and lifted!
Which I'm not haha, still too new for me to have the lift done it was a blast though.
Beware of atv people acting like fools though.
