Have to admit, it is pretty hard for a bird to miss that big grill.

I have been a Ham Radio operator for a little while, 42 years to be exact ;) Ham Radio is a service and a hobby. You must test to become a ham. If you look at www.arrl.org for exams there are usually plenty around many localities. You no longer need to learn Morse code to become a ham, just past a test on FCC rules and basic radio theory and operating frequencies one would be allowed to operate on depending on his license class test he passed. Many opt for the Technician class, which allows you all privileges above 50 MHz and some 28 to 29.7 MHz privileges. The General Class is next which gives you Quite a lot of HF worldwide frequencies to operate on along with what the Technician has and last is the Extra, that allows operation on all United States amateur radio "ham" frequencies. I hold an Amateur Extra and a Commercial General Class Radiotelephone operators license with shipboard radar endorsement. The commercial license allows me to repair marine radios and marine radar systems, but does not allow me to repair radiotelegraphy radios, only voice radios.
